PC for Maya and Zbrush?

Hello all, thinking of getting a better PC for 3d modeling with Maya and sculpting with Zbrush, also for rendering with keyshot, marmoset and unreal, do you think this is ok? Im not that literate when it comes to what motherboard or what cooler to choose, would be using this pc also for gaming but the main purpose is the 3d work. Thanks a lot for all your advice

The i7-7740X is obsolete and not the best choice for your work. It's not the best choice for almost anyone tbh.

What monitor are you pairing it with for gaming btw? (noting that the main purpose is 3d work).

And what's your budget?

Hi, thanks for the help, I have an ASUS VE278Q 27 inch.. probably should upgrade that too. My budget is £2k

I'll begin by saying I'm not personally familiar with 3D work and rendering, so this just comes from what I've read.

Some of what you're doing renders on the CPU only (Keyshot afaik) while Marmoset apparently uses the GPU a lot: http://polycount.com/discussion/170772/some-questions-about-marmoset-and-gpus-performance

Some of the software, or some of what you're doing with it, will prefer high clock speeds, while other uses especially CPU rendering will prefer more cores and threads.

Perhaps your best bet for a suitable all-rounder in your budget range would be the Vulcan Pro: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/configure-review/248/

It's a "review spec" which means it is a pre-set configuration with a discounted price. The manually configured price is about £2k and it's sold at £1750.

It has a better SSD than your spec, but has a CPU with 2 more cores (i7 8700k), which will be a massive asset for CPU rendering compared to the i7 7740x. I don't think you're going to get a better all-rounder spec for the money.

With the remaining £250 or so of your budget you can buy an extra HDD and some RAM to go upto 32gb.

You can't change review spec configurations, so you'd either need to source and install your own extra RAM and storage. Or, since PCS sell components as upgrades for existing customers, phone them to ask if they can just add the extra bits when they build your Vulcan Pro.
