Hi guys!
I'm looking to buy a full setup, desktop and monitor. My use for it would be general productivity stuff (writing, researching, some audio-editing), but also a bit of gaming. Not a huge enthusiast, sadly don't have the time, but I'd like to get a rig that can last me for a good number of years going forward. I tend to play stratagy games which aren't too demanding, but I also dabble in a bit of Tarkov (which my current setup can't really handle if I'm honest, get atrocious FPS even on lowest settings) and I'll probably want to try Cyberpunk at some point.
Basically I'm hoping to get get something that I can reasonably expect to handle any new releases I might want to try out over the next couple of years.
I'd decided to set my max budget at £1500 for the desktop, though ideally a few hundred less as it would leave me with a bit more freedom to get a better monitor.
This all being the case, I was drawn to the Vortex ST-S at Currys because of the RTX 3070 seems good for my purposes, the i7-10700 seemed a good place to land (to me) and the price point works for me.
I've taken on board everything that's been written in threads about Intel being bad and how various parts in this build might not be great. I have to say I'm still tempted because Currys actually have this in stock whereas the waiting times for a RTX 3070 seems pretty brutal on here(?), but I guess when you're dropping this kind of money on something you should be prepared to wait a few extra weeks to make just you get the best product possible.
All of this is a very long-winded way of asking: With a max price of £1500, what kind of build should I be looking at (if not the Vortex ST-S)?
Edit: Reading some reviews online, it does look as if the RTX 3060ti would work for me as well? Which would knock the price down a tiny bit.
Also: Is this overkill for my expected usage anyway? Or, in the other end of the spectrum, I can _probably_ find another couple of 100s somewhere and go to £1700-1800 if it would make a huge difference to what I'd be getting....
Had a go at working out a configuration that seems alright based on what little I know of these things, how does this look: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/amd-am4-gen3-pc/Q4xPH0pbAV/
Would appreciate any and all advice you all have to offer!
