Hi folks
Wondered whether this could be discussed and wanted a range of views from members but also mods/admin on who is better at what and where should my money be going?

I am torn between the 2 at the moment i must admit....

Most of the responses you will get in the forum is to go with PCS for their good customer service and competitive prices. I'd suggest looking online for reviews (trustpilot, review centre...).

+1 to what Ruben said, from my experience I found the equivalent pc at PCS to be cheaper than it was at Scan too. Although that wont be the case in every scenario.

One thing I love about Pcs is,

-Customer service, many of their staff go above and beyond in my opinion. Many of the customer support staff and builders come on these forums in their own time to offer tech support. If you have a problem with your order, give them a bell straight away, often getting sent a replacement part out the same day for free next day delivery, known as advanced replacement.

-You also have these forums as a source of knowledge and support, also you will notice that PCS do not delete any negative posts, I don't work for PCS but I know for a fact nothing is deleted on here, many companies do this, however, I wont mention names. Also I don't even think Scan have forums, so for me that's a negative thing.

Obviously asking on the PCS forum is going to be extremely bias otherwise we wouldn't be on here ha. There is a big difference between the two companies which is what separates them from being comparable however, PCS should be looked at (and is in a way) as a pre-built computer manufacture such as Dell, HP, Packard Bell etc in which I would use to buy a computer. Scan on the other hand is just a supplier of the parts/components requires for a computer and as such I would use to upgrade existing components (Although yes, they do distribute pre-built computers).

So my 10 pence worth is that the reason I used PCS was because in the past I've always built my computers my self because its cheaper, and I hate pre-built computers due to being filled with their own software and the lack of component customization. PCS however allowed me to choose the parts I wanted, was still cheaper than buying a pre-built computer (spec for spec) and still had the feel of a custom build.

These are my opinions however and I feel everyone should forge their own ideas.

I think both PCS and Scan offer new products in their pre-built computers. Although as PCS main selling point is pre-configured / custom systems (as opposed to Scan which mainly sells parts) PCS might be refreshing their systems more regularly to keep up with the latest technology and demand.

Just goes to show just how little you know when you think about it, but I actually didn't know there were any other graphics card manufacturers than Nvidia and Radeon. I would suggest though the reason Nvidia and Radeon are offered are down to reasons of greater availability, higher compatibility and lower cost. At least in terms of PC graphics cards (as opposed to mobile devices etc.).

Interesting thread on tomshardware regarding this here : http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/324346-15-brands-there

They reckon most of the other smaller brands were bought over by the larger companies.

They do indeed. The GTX 650 ti was introduced on the 9th October so I changed my gpu to that. Trouble is, they ain't in stock and my build is delayed! Comforting to know it's the latest though. :D

morning

kind of off topic but what benefits would i get from running an SSD as my first drive and then say caviar black 1tb as my 2nd rather than say any of the other options?

Having an SSD as your main drive will make windows boot up faster. After that it really depends on what you put on it (programs etc.), but that's the reason most people go for SSD's in their gaming rigs I would say.

Unless the programs you have open are all fighting to read/write from the harddrive all of the time you might see little benefit from a SSD for programs, its mainly in boot speeds (and opening programs).

As for the ram, I have the Kingston Hyper X ram and its pretty good as far as ram goes. Not sure of a direct comparison but I'm sure there will be some on the web :)

I don't think there will be any difference in ram brands, apart from you are paying for a name.

Personally I'd go with kingston, partly from a good experience, however, I like corsair too.

But PCS not stocking corsair ram, I wouldnt see as a bad thing at all. You could still buy from PCS and ship your own ram to them, OR just go for the kingston hyper ram, its a nice blue, matches most asus intel mobos and you know you wont get any compatibility issues. PS have a look on the pictures thread, If you care about what it looks like.

When i was buying my first PC i was worried as there are so many site, i decided to compare sites and also the values of parts on their own and in the end i decided that PCSpecialist are the best, they have the most competitive prices which i highly doubt can be beaten, they have amazing customer service so if you had any problems or enquires they will be sorted and dealt with ASAP and finally the forums, this place is a haven of knowledge, help and a way to make new freinds!!
