PC suddenly running games very laggy overnight

Hi, first time posting here, but PC specialist help lines are closed and I really need some help with this(thanks so much in advance).

I got a new PC from PC specialist, first arriving on the 15th of Febuary 2024 and needing to be returned for repairs, due to being made with a faulty motherboard, then being delivered again after repairs on the 1st of March 2024. Since the 1st of March, I've been using it regularly for gaming, primarily playing helldivers 2, which it ran with no issue whatsoever before, including last night when I went on for a little bit, and it ran very smoothly.

Today, the PC can barely open helldivers, and when it does open, it runs extremely slowly, with input delay and extreme lag. No hardware such as a monitor has changed, and no changes in the settings either. The PC also lags on lower performance games such as Dave the Diver. The parts are listed below, and I'd appreciate any help at all!

Processor (CPU)
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D Eight Core CPU (4.2GHz-5.0GHz/104MB w/3D V-CACHE/AM5)

Bit of a weird config, but nothing obvious that should be a red flag. I'd check Task Manager to see if there's anything using a lot of your CPU, as it sounds like something going on with the CPU. A common culprit is something like an antivirus, or indeed a virus. Another thing to check is to check the CPU temperatures with software like HWiNFO: if, for instance, your AIO pump had failed, that could cause the CPU to be thermally throttling and could cause poor performance.

You haven’t posted your full specs? Did you order with windows or without? If the motherboard was replaced then it would have had a clean windows install due to the secure boot keys having changed. I take it you’ve applied all optional updates when you got it back?

When you say it can barely run helldivers, you need to be more specific than that, what are the actual symptoms, are you getting any error messages?

Also, are you sure you have the monitor plugged into the gpu and not the motherboard?

What make and model monitor are you using?

Sorry about that! It's running Windows with all updates applied.

When trying to run helldivers, it takes a few minutes for the game to open, remaining on a black window until it opens, and once the application is running, the game is extremely laggy with significant input delay, and the program doesn't respond when I try to close it, opening an error message. These symptoms(aside from the error message upon closing) apply to all other games, with input delay not being present outside of games.

The monitor is plugged into the graphics card, in the same plug its been running well on for the last two weeks.

I'm using this monitor CRUA 32 Inch Gaming Monitor FHD (1920 X 1080), Curved Computer Monitor 165Hz, the link to where I got it being https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0BYJV76QY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

Sorry if I've missed anything else, I'm unfamiliar with PCs, but thanks so much for responding!

Looking at task manager, I can't see anything taking up a significant amount of the CPU, even when Helldivers is open, only about 25% of the CPU is being used, with 20% of that being helldivers.

Looking at the CPU temperature, it's at 55 degrees Celsius when helldivers is running.

Thanks so much!

Can you post up your entire spec? This will include information such as any installed AV and whether Windows was installed by PCS. Unfortunately half answers only give us half of the picture so we need everything.

When copying over your spec, just be careful to edit out the Windows key if it's in there before posting.

And what’s the error message?

Can you post a screenshot of your optional updates page from windows update?

Can you also open disk manager and post a screenshot of your disk layout?

The error message only shows up occasionally, but it's typically just an "application not responding, close or keep it open" message.

You'll find screenshots of my optional updates page and disk layout attatched, thanks so much!

From the order page on the account if possible, same as you did first of all but you missed out a bit.

And that’s the windows update page, you need to go to advanced options to see the optional updates. Or just type optional updates into search

Called up PC specialist and the issue was resolved, just needed to clean my drivers then reinstall AMD software, thanks so much for the help in this thread!!
