PC upgraded two small issues! RAM RGB & M.2 format!

Good evening / morning everyone,

I am after a little bit of help / advice.

I spent 7 hours upgrading components of my PC yesterday which I done perfectly and with great cable management which I was impressed with for my first real go and completely rebuilding a PC.

Now to the issues, I added another 16gb of Corsair Vengeance RGB RAM the same as already in there. If I power off and then turn on it does not light up but says there is 32gb installed! If I power of then flick the PSU switch off and then turn it back on and boot the PC they all work fine. Any ideas?

Secondly I installed another 1tb of M.2 Samsung 970 storage. When I do diskpart to format the drive my other 1TB HDD is showing and I cannot differ between the two.

I have:
512gb 970 evo (Operating System)
1TB HDD (Storage)
1TB 970 evo (New one intended for games only)

The just show up as:

Disk 0 online 931gb free 0 b gpt *
Disk 1 online 931gb free 931gb gpt
Disk 2 online 465gb free 0 b gpt *

Obviously I do not want to wipe the wrong drive. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you and happy new year!

Robert

This forum is for PCS customers and we are unable to advise on self - builds.

If this is a PCS machine you have been upgrading, then please provide details as per the thread linked below.

If not, then I suggest you try a public forum such as Toms Hardware.

With the RAM I'd start by removing and re-seating it. I recently installed RGB RAM and found it inconsistent/glitchy until I reseated it; it has worked fine since.

With your SSD, I'd suggest using the "disk management" tool, rather than command line stuff. (Much as I love the command line!) It should be obvious there which is the unformatted drive.

Ok I will try this after the step above.

Is the disk management a much easier way then?

Well, it's a GUI that I've found fairly intuitive and easy to work with. But I find Windows command line stuff tricky (give me Linux any day!).

Morning guys,

So I tried both of the above and it did not work.

If I shut down and power off the PSU and then start the PC the RAM sticks all have a red colour at the top and bottom then once I log in they then go to the colour I set up.

If I put it to sleep the RAM stays lit up. If I shut down and power it back on they do not light up again!

It's bizarre!

Thanks
Rob

Have you installed the Corsair RGB ram plug-in for Asus?
I was have a weird freezing issue with my ram until I installed it. You also have to be careful of the order you install things. Have a look at this and see if it helps.

Thank you for the advice.

I done this and still has not worked.

Shut Down the PC and powered it back on and no RGB on the RAM. Go into iCUE and force update of the firmware, the RAM sticks each have a turn of a red line running through them and then they all light up correctly.

This of course is not affecting performance but I just cannot solve the mystery!

Thank you.

Do you have any other software running that controls RGB?
I.e. for your graphics card?

Yes. The only new one I have installed is MasterPlus by CoolerMaster.

I did read that too much RGB control can cause chaos, I downloaded Armoury Crate but deleted it for this reason as I thought it was the problem!

What do you suggest? I cannot delete MasterPlus as it controls my fans!

Not sure really. I think you need amoury crate and the rgb memory plugin installed to sort out your ram (unless it's faulty?) As far as your case fans go, maybe look in to if they can be plugged into the commander or direct to the motherboard headers. Failing that, maybe try some 3rd party software like Jacknet RGB... That's about all I've got..
