Photo editting/ light gaming spec

Hi,

Any comments on this spec? I'll be photo editting (RAW files, photoshop) a bit of gaming and general office/internet use. I will be running Windows 7 Ultimate. i'd like this to be good for a good few years maybe with a bit of extra RAM down the line.

A couple of specific questions: does the MB have USB 3 already or do I need to add it as an option? I orignally had the 2600k and faster Kingston RAM but don't plan on overclocking so I don't think there's any point, is that right?

Is there anything I can save on or anything i should add?

Yes that motherboard has two USB 3.0 ports at the back, no just stick with the Samsung RAM. If you wanted to save some money you could take the i5 2500 instead but overall it will perform well.

Thanks. I was thinking that the i7-2600 would give me a bit more longevity even if I don't really need it right now. I'm not really sure how different they are though.

The 2600 will out-perform the 2500, but not by a long way. As always, if your budget/requirement permits an i7-2600, order this as it's the faster processor.

 

[Meds]

To be honest, you have selected a "WS" or WorkStation Motherboard - these are more expensive than most motherboards and for the uses you describe, you simply don't need it. I have put together a specification based on another motherboard - the ASUS P8P67 Pro, which will cater for all your requirements inc. USB 3.0.

As you can see it's considerably cheaper. If you want to go for the 2500, the price would drop to around the £1,000 mark.
