CPU is good. GPU is also good for 1080p. Your RAM however is quite slow, is there any chance that you could bump it up to 3000MHz and say, get rid of the blu-ray burner and raid setup? 2400MHz really isn't doing your Ryzen CPU any favors, you need around 3000-3200MHz to unlock its full potential.

The case. I would not recommend this case at all, especially if youre using primarily air cooled components. From what I have seen online this case has horrific airflow, because Corsair went with prioritizing noise dampening instead of airflow. I would recommend the Fractal Focus G, as it has good airflow and looks quite nice.

Another thing, why have you gone with a raid setup? It's hell of a lot easier to just get one 2TB HDD.

I think you're thinking of a different case. The 200R isn't the noise dampened one. It's actually pretty decent, and users with PCs on here with it I think have echoed the same.

My complaint about it would be dust filters, and I would agree that the Fractal Focus G is probably a better choice overall.

So agreed:
- Faster RAM - 3000MHz
- Why the Mirrored RAID? If for backups, ditch it for versioned backups to cloud / external storage.
- Consider the Focus G, which iirc has better dust filters.

You won't the the extra case fans either, certainly not in the Focus G.

What's the PC for? Gaming? On a 1080p 60hz monitor?

Also, are you intending to buy Borderlands 3 or Ghsot Recon Breakpoint at full price?

If so, consider swapping to the RX 590 GPU. It's in the same class as the 1660, maybe ~10% slower. But it's £20 cheaper and includes a choice of either game, making it a lot cheaper if you were gonna buy one of those anyway.

If you couldn't care less about those games, stick to the 1660.

Thanks for your advice. I only play games now and then I mainly want the extra power for Video Editing. I like a optical drive and the case you advise will not accept one. My old computer is a Pentium i7 core and that is the speed I would like but it is 3 years old so I want a replacement. I may be purchasing too high a spec. The graphic card is not that important to me, I don't think.

Optical drives can be used externally VIA USB. You can pick them up very cheap. For video editing + gaming (at 1080p 60hz, presumably) This rig is (in my opinion) generally spot on. The only thing I disagree with is the case choice (The fractal focus G is much better for the reasons provided above), and the raid config.

Thanks again Thorntheelite I have an external optical drive. I will go for the case you suggested. I will see what the price difference is.

Why are we steering @edwjef towards an external drive?

The Fractal Focus G supports an internal DVD drive. The internal DVD drive is faster, and a little cheaper. There's no reason not to get an internal DVD drive.

Drop the RAID 1. Why are you going for RAID 1?

It won't do any harm as such, but if you back up malware, a Trojan or something else intrusive it makes no odds. The only thing RAID saves you from is mechanical failure....... which a non-RAID backup option would also save you from. Cloud storage is often the best option, periodic physical backups are also recommended.

That way you are protected, for the most part, from most scenarios.

I would personally save the money and half the storage.

I'd agree with the above, except I'd argue that it will do harm. Because you treat it as a backup to safeguard your data when it doesn't.

RAID doesn't protect you against a virus, or if you just delete one of your files by mistake, or delete/overwrite important data.

What would protect you more than RAID is a versioned backup system. Cloud storage is one option. You can also get free software that will back up your files to another device (external storage, network drive) too, keeping copies of the different versions of the file.

RAID is not a backup.
