hello :)

so this is what I am thinking of getting :

[Edit by Rakk: no links to competitor sites please]

HDD and DVD is missing, thats another 100 pounds I guess.

So, the pc will be used for editing HD videos and gaming. Also, I'm planning to play around with some advanced video graphic programs and programming. If I will control myself not to spend to much time gaming, it's going to be like my little studio, to record music, movies, play around with my imagination :)

My biggest concern is the processor. AMD phenom 2 x6 is deffinetly worse than i7 3930k but, maybe I should buy amd phenom 2 x8, or even x 10 - which will still be cheaper than i7 but maybe even better in the performance. what about amd phenom 2 x12?
so yes, please advise me ...

thank you!

perhaps post up a PCS machine and we can go from that. You could also post a total max budget and we can make a spec for you to have a look at.

sorry, not sure what you mean...
my budget is around 1500 pounds (that's just the pc, no accesories, no screen). I can save another couple of hundreds pounds if that would make the purchase much more attractive.

That is towards the top end of your budget and it is a very very nice machine.

You could cut back to an i7 quadcore if you wanted to save the money, but that machine is a beast and will serve you well.

so, I went to yoyotech in central london, and this is what I could buy today (without ordering):

i7 3930k
gtx680 2gb msi 1006mhz 1536 cores, 28mm 6008mhz gddr5 gpu 2x DL DVI DP hdmi PCI-E 3.0
asus sabertooth x79 socket 2011 motherboard
16gb ram (2x8gb) ddr3 1600mhz corsair pc3-128000 1.5v
850W silverpower 85% Eff, 80 plus bronze EPS12V quiet fan ATX Power supply
enermax ETS-T40-VD CPU cooler with blue and red fans
corsair 200r carbide series black mid tower case
120gb 2.5 SSD samsung840 basic read 530mb\s write 160mb's drive sata 3 6gbp's 3-core mdx 21nm toggle NAND
1tb 3.5 western digital AV 16mb cache intellipower rpm sata 3 hard disk drive
samsung 24x dvd +/- RW sata black

- £1480 for that

please tell me if these components are all good ... I think HDD and SSD are much worse from those proposed by mantadog.
I'd love to find components that are in stock in yoyotech or any other PC shop in london, so that I dont have to order, but just pick everything up and take it home :)
thanks

The components look fine to me. About the only other thing I think you'd need would be some thermal paste (tho that's pretty cheap) unless you have some already.

For reference an equivalent PCS system would cost about £100 more, tho of course it comes assembled and with a guarantee. But if you are confident to build it yourself, then it's certainly a little cheaper.

oh, so if i build it myself I don't get any guarantee/warranty?
to be honest, i have never built a pc myself, but I guess it's not very difficult.

Well, you would get the manufacturers warranty for all the separate bits, so if the bits didn't work you would be able to get said bits replaces presuming they are within the warranty timeframes, but obviously you would then have to deal with said manufacturers.

is that a good thing to do or a bad thing, you think? :)

Well, personally I like PC's being built and tested for me, and only needing to go through one company if any random part of it breaks (my two PCS built PC's have never had any problems so I've never needed to get anything sorted mind), admittedly, I am a bit of a static magnet, so I try not to go inside PC's too often, and only when I've found my anti-static wristband.
