Hi
I just went through this spec for video editing. I'm making short social media adverts, short docs, music vids as an extra job, and some charity videos for free.

My budget is about £1500 so this is a few pounds over. I'm going to try get a monitor 2nd hand etc. The aim of this spec is also to future proof it for as many years as possible as the software demands and video file size steadily increases. Is it okay, any changes? Many thanks

Starting point for a good video editing rig is the 2060. Anything above that is just gravy. I would definitely consider putting any potential money towards the XT though. It will make a difference when rendering.

Most video editing is based on a ratio..... rendering:effects. Rendering is mostly CPU driven, effects is always aided by GPU. If the user is purely rendering with minimal effects then CPU should always take priority. If it's high end video editing then effects will always come into play where a reasonable GPU should always be employed (2060 with its RTX cores).

Looks good. Keeps the X570 as well which offers future potential for a serious CPU down the line :)

Wow thank you so much for your help!
I hope you dont mind me asking a few questions
1) Do you think it is worth stepping up to a Ryzen 9? Would this require many other changes?
2) I dont understand the change in motherboard...could you explain...im out of my depth here.....obvs
3) I went with 64gb RAM as some footage im using is 10bit and on my current computer (borrowed actually) it cant handle at all....i thought RAM was the issue, only at 16gb on a mac mimi i7.

I guess i can install more RAM later if an issue. As i said im aytempting to future proof this as much as possible, while also realising that im a few grand off a professional video edit suite...thats just not possible for me.

Thank you.

The budget is the limitation unfortunately. The base is excellent, so I would stick with it as it stands. Swapping out the motherboard for a cheaper item isn't a wise decision, especially to increase the CPU etc.

Ok thanks. I just realised that stepping up to a Ryzen 9 wasnt costing too much and may be worth it in the long run. I wouldn't reduce the quality of the motherboard id just pay a bit more. Im just unsure if it would require ither changes to be made.

The cooler would need a bump as well to keep the boost clocks going...

What’s your budget for the monitor?

Ah budget. Id like to keep it around 100, below 150, and hoping second hand helps with this.
That budget is going to be very limiting even second hand, but for a very basic 4K monitor, something like the following which are both around £200 new, personally I’d just save up more and buy new.
