Why Intel over AMD?

What monitor are you going to be using and what's the primary use for the PC?

Hi,

Sorry about that, you just beat me to it as I was going to add that.

Monitor 1080 but planning to go to the next level later.

Gaming use, not very high-level games at the moment but I want to future proof the pc for 5 years if possible.

Thanks,

Martin

For 1080p 3060Ti be more than enough and will be good for most 1440p also. I'd go for a Ryzen 7 5800x CPU, faster ram which Ryzen likes, Standard thermal paste as a lot of components come with their own excellent paste, wondows 10 home unless definitely need to added enterprise security of pro, and you absolutely need your operating system on a M.2 NVME SSD!

That wireless card is poor too, need to get the intel AC wireless one.

I think we've already agreed to disagree about the AMD vs Intel debate in other threads so I'll skip over that.

The 3060 will look after 1080p gaming comfortably for the next few years. If you were looking at getting a 1440p monitor in the next few months I would recommend sticking with the 3060ti, any longer than that and it would be better to buy the GPU at that time as with every new generation we are seeing a cheaper component offer comparative performance, such as the latest gen 3070 trading blows with the 2080ti which costs twice as much. The speed at which the GPU scene is developing makes it very hard to futureproof.
It's well worth getting an m.2 SSD drive for your OS and programs; even the PCS m.2 would be many times faster than the HDD.
For an extra £6 I would highly recommend the 850W RMx over the TXm. You get a fully modular design, better quality components and a better warranty.
For the wireless card I would recommend the AX200 as it gives access to both the 2.4 and 5 GHz channels as well as Bluetooth support. If you' have a wired connection you can also drop it completely.
You've made a great choice with the case and cooler, but you can drop the arctic paste as the H115i comes with premium paste pre-applied.

Hi,

Thank you all for the advice, very useful.:)

I did make a couple of mistakes on the spec :-

I don't need a wifi card so I removed that and the PSU should have been fully modular, my mistake.

I was going for a 750w but they are out of stock.

I have already chosen the RTX 360TI.

The reason for the 1TB drive is because I already have 1 x Evo 1TB SSD which I will use from my old PC, plus a spare 1TB HDD for backups as well.

As for the Ryzen 7 5800x CPU, there is not enough difference to make it worthwhile to pay the extra cash and with faster ram which would be very nice, it makes the build above my budget.:(

Yes, I do need W10 Pro as I am part of a home domain.

I started with a budget of about £1600 but that has now crept up to over £1900 so I have to stop somewhere or I'll end up paying a whole lot more...

A quick question, when I place the order is it possible to any instructions for the build, as I would like the cables for the extra SSD and HDD to be put in ready for my installation?

The easiest way to save £130 would be downgrading to the 3060. As stated above the 3060 is a much better fit for 1080p gaming.
Another area you could economise would be the case. While the 500D SE is a fantastic case, it's also £180 and you could save another chunk going down to the 465x (£110) or even the 4000D airflow (£67).

When speccing a build you look at performance, aesthetics, and budget. Generally you can only have two of those things, and while it is nice to blow the budget and go all out, as you are looking to stick to budget it's aesthetics I would recommend toning back a smidge on.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.:)

You are sadly quite correct!

It's just me, I want to have my cake and eat it as well.:D

The case comes with the controller and a hub so I would plan on using it for more than 5 years, thus saving in the long run.

However, your points are very valid so I have some decisions to make.

Do you know if I can add a note to the build or do I need to contact PCS, please?

You can make amendments in your online account in the orders section.

It won't affect your place in the queue.

Hi,

Thanks for the info but it wasn't to make amendments it was to ask if the ey could add spare cables ready to add 2 more dives when I placed the order as I have 2 of my drives to install.

If I can add a note then it saves sitting in the phone queue for a long time.

Ah apologies, mistook what you were asking...

I'll have to leave that to others, I've only ordered once in 2014 and never did anything like that.
