Power brick is malfunctioning

I've had a Genesis IV laptop with a silver warrenty for a year and a half and it has developed a problem with the power supply. Plugging in the charger causes the battery and power indicators to flash in sequence once every five seconds or so, and the operating system thinks the laptop is charging only for about half a second every five. When the battery is not inserted, the laptop does not turn on at all under AC power, so I think the transformer brick is the problem.

My question is: is the power brick the likely culprit and is it covered by the warranty (and can I get a new one in either case :D ). Thanks for your help.

Silver warranty cover parts only for 1 year so the adapter wouldn't be cover by now.

Before you replace the charger you should at least test it with a multimeter to be certain that it is the problem.
The problem could in fact be with the laptop itself.

If it turns out to be the power brick that's faulty you could get a replacement from PCS or perhaps Clevo directly (but my first port of call would be PCS)

If you go into your order you should be able to order up a new one in the upgrade my machine section or spares.

Before that i would check the connections, just make sure there clean of dirt etc, you have maybe done that already.

Okay, thanks. Would I be able to buy another adaptor from PCSpecialist then?

PCS will sell you a second adaptor (assuming they're in stock), log in to your account and you can check the stock levels of everything relating to your laptop. In my experience it's cheaper and easier than buying from Clevo themselves or other stockists who are usually based outside the UK.
