Why would you want an SSD as your second disk? Typically you'll want the SSD as your primary with the OS and programs on it so you get the benefit of the faster access for the OS (which is where it's needed). An SSD as a pure data disk makes little sense.

I installed 12GB in my Optimus IV because it seemed silly not to, I guess you're planning the same? I've never ever used anything close to 8GB yet though, and I have lots of applications open, some of which are fairly memory hungry. If you're on a budget you can certainly drop 4GB of RAM and you almost certainly won't notice.

As keynes says though, what do you plan to use the laptop for?
