Programs not picking up AMD Graphics Card on Vortex IV‏

Hey Guys!

I ordered a laptop that arrived last week (Vortex Series: 17.3" IV), but theres a problem.

It's not picking up the AMD Radeon R9 M290X Graphics Card that came with it.

It's only recognizing the Intel HD Graphics 4600.

I've tried disabling the Intel HD Graphics 4600 display in Device Manager, but then it doesn't use the AMD display driver.

I've also downloaded the latest drivers for it from the AMD site, but it still doesn't work. In adition, when I let the AMD Autoinstaller automatically find drivers for it by scanning the computer, it recognizes the graphics card as an
AMD Radeon HD8970M instead.

Starting up any game, it defaults to the Intel Graphics Card, despite setting all games to "High Performance" in Catalyst and having the laptop plugged in.

These are the specifications:

Hi SetUUpWizard, sounds a frustrating problem. I'm better versed with nVidia than AMD but when you say you disable the onboard graphics that it doesn't use the AMD driver then how is the display still working ? It does sound like a driver problem (or a problem with the AMD equivalent of nvidia optimus, if there is one !)

If it came with the OS installed, then you can probably get this solved via customer services - have you contacted PCS?

I don't know much about laptop setup, but is there a BIOS option you need to set?

Im not too familiar with the latest AMD GPU but i think you have to go into the AMD software and actually tell it when to use the AMD GPU otherwise it will just select the intergal graphics to save power.

Might be worth a look in the its called Catalysit Control Centre.

Hope this helps

Mike
