I've been having a few problems with it so I called up last week and told them the issue I had was that sometimes when I boot up the computer it shows that I have 6GB Ram and other time only 4 GB, They said that a few people have called them about this and that it can be fixed by loosening the screws on the cooler by a quarter turn each but also make sure not to loosen it too much. I havent had time to do it yet until last night I opened up the main panel and can see 2 screws (in the pic below which I found online) but the other 2 are covered by the fan so cant access them, I take it that it will just be those 2 that I would turn? Didnt want to start poking at it

Any info would be great.

Thanks

Hi JJ,

I think the problem with your order is due to a compatibility with the Corsair RAM & ASUS X58 Motherboard. See the post below;

In this circumstance, PaulH maybe the best person to speak to (although I may be wrong). Either send PaulH a PM or call Tech Support tomorrow on 0844 499 4000 and you will be able to discuss the options available to you with them. Obviously with it being out of hours & me being at home, I cannot correspond with Tech Support or the Customer Services Supervisor to help any further I'm afraid!

Ey up,

Officially from asus if you tighten the cooler too much is can mess with how the memory is recognised, to get to the other 2 screws you simply need to remove the fan thats attached to the fenrir (you will see 2 thin metal retention brackets on the cooler middle) they are a little fiddly to get back on, but once you have the hang of it, easy peasy - they have to be assembled from the pack anyways so its not like your breaking it, once these are slackened off we have seen some improvement with recognition of RAM, another fix is to go into the BIOS and set Ai overclock tuner to auto (in the AI tweeker menu) then press F10 to save and exit setup, this will restart your computer and should show you all 6gb of RAM in Windows, it does however drop you memory speed to 1333mhz, but at this time it is the only fix we have - We believe ASUS are working on it, as this is a silly problem.

Thanks i'll give that a try and let you know how I get on, if not i'll try the bios option, will lowering the memory speed be much of a reduction on what I have just now?

Most of the time you will not notice this, the results will probably only be detectable in a benchmark program or when your computer is pushed to its absolute limits. I would suggest you try the BIOS setting and see if you can notice the change...

Thanks, I turned the screws a quarter turn as asked and its showing the full 6GB now, Hopefully that will be it but if not would there be any chance I could get the Kingston memory since its on their QVL list to swap it over with as the corsair isnt? as I would prefer it to be the 1600MHz it stays at.

gardav858 - it's not a problem with your order, it only happened with Corsair memory with the Dominator heatsink, and we no longer sell this :)
