Anyone read about this yet, looks awesome

It is a £22 PC basically which runs 1080p video etc although it is mainly designed for young people to learn basic programming, so I will be definitely be getting one

I think your pc owns the Raspberry Pi :)

yes but it is £22.. and the idea of this isn't too run bf3 at max settings (may be worth testing on games..) it is meant to be for gaming, and from what he said on the video, it could be used to control robots

Just found out a couple of specs
700MHz processor (assuming its single core)
256MB RAM

could put windows on an external and then get some readyboost memory sticks, i wonder how that would perform

I think I will get one though, even if its used just a few times its a pretty cool thing to have and kind of necessary to what i want to do

yes, quite clearly successful, but ive favourited the link and will definitely be checking back for when they have stock

sadly the main site they sell from doesnt know what the storage size is yet on the SD but it should still be a decent amount

if they were to release something with a bit more power and say a SATA port and mini RAM slot they would definitely be on to something for some places like schools and stuff

I've been looking at these for some time. Hoping to be able to use them for some integrated systems. I would suggest waiting for the 2nd batch anyway (or maybe 3rd) theres a high chance the first will be a bit buggy

These were on the news last night, look pretty good for schools, but whether schools can afford a load of these is a different story.

tom, normally I would agree, but the local school where I work last year bought all the students an iPad (which they take home with them too!)...I think it was something like 100k in all...20 per unit looks good now! :D

yeh i have heard of similar in my area, not ipads but a school down the road always gave students the best PDAs available, i imagine they probably use androids now, £20 is a bargain tbh, and the device can apparently run Quake 3!! which after just looking will run on a pocket calculator, literally, but this is smaller than a pocket calculator

If i can find a very slim small screen with HDMI i could make my own little tablet

I'd like one too! Don't know how much I would use it though, also, my only stand alone monitor uses a vga connection :( ! Oh well, I will see when a few more come into stock, may even buy a second hand one. Have to convince the parents though :(! do you know what the additional connections are and how they can be used?

What we need to do is have a PCS Pi (c wut i did thar?) and attach a slim touchscreen monitor to it (via hdmi/usb2) and fit a back to it and viola! ipad 3 eat my dust!

Also we could make a robot.
that shouts PCSPECIALIST IS THE BEST! and make it have a gps and a stupidly fast engine and the gps will find the most populated areas and go there and advertise and be chased by police and run away and be awesome.

please give me the money for one..
Please?

:p

It looks like the current ones are the "expensive" models, there's going to be a £16.00 version released later this year without an Ethernet port and with 128MB of RAM.

Yes, but it will have 256mb of RAM, they decided to up it. I think it will only have 1 usb port though.

My view is that for programming of this kind you should really look at arduino, for programming that requires more processing power just use your pc. I can see why this might get kids more interested in programming however giving I think its almost fooling them into thinking that if they become a programmer this is what they will be doing everyday. Teach them logic, maths etc for the type of programming most software developers do, teach them c# or java and that will give them a really good start to programming. These are ok as toys, and for programmers who wish to mess around but to me its not something to be used to encourage people to get into programming.

it looks like it wont be a good option for schools seeing as they are being limited to 1 per customer

I looked at the arduino, it would be ideal for programming control systems as there is already a large supplier base for breadboards to do just about everything, the main disadvantage (for me at least) is the cost. Its considerably more than the pi once you start adding in additional boards
