Reassurance?

I'm close to ordering my Pc and I want to! But I'm just a little sceptical about spending so much on a custom built PC from a company who to be honest I had never heard of until about a month ago. I guess I'm just looking for the assurance that it is a good place to buy from and the PC's you guys have bought have been fine. Is it just the same as if you'd buy one from Pc World except its not pre-built already? It probably seems a little stupid I ask but I've never spent so much on a PC before.

Cheers

Well, I bought my first PC from PCS about 5 years ago (when I'd never heard of them before either), they were recommended to me by a work mate, I then bought my current PC about 2 years ago, and well, I've had no problems at all with my PC's at all.

Your PC does come pre-built, as in you don't need to put it together or anything (if that is what you mean). I would imagine its obvious on the PCS forums many people (myself included) will sing the praises of PCS but in my opinion they really are a top notch company. All problems are dealt with swiftly and professionally and their aftercare service is excellent. I would certainly say its far superior to PC World and all other computer stores of that ilk.

I was the same as you skeptical as I have never heard of them...Now I wouldn't think of buying a PC/Laptop of the shelf

Really good company mate so don't worry :)!

If I thought there would be an issue I would not be waiting for the delivery of a laptop from them.

Put it another way - I was in a large Department store yesterday and witnessed a sales assistant telling an old couple they needed an I7 for browsing the net and doing e mail as he tried to flog them an £899 Sony. They wouldn't know what this processor could do if it ran up to them, knocked them on the head an gave them instructions and a picture. Similarly, last weekend I was in a 'well-known electrical retail store' and the sale guy tried to tell me that the 610M was a high spec GPU and that the Toshiba it was sitting in was 'a beast'. The Samsung I did end up buying had the vent on the left hand side of the machine and pumped out air so hot I had to take it back.

It is less risky buying from an established PC builder than taking a chance on the high street. Make sure the warranty is ok and pay by credit card if possible.

This makes me feel better about buying from here, thanks everyone. Its just spending so much money I suppose I just want to get it right lol I can tell this is a good place to buy from and not a rip off like Pc world (who's range of PC's is quite horrific).

I bought mine in February, I also never spent so much on a computer before. I had a couple of issues with the pc that were quickly dealt by technical support, I am definitely purchasing my next laptop/pc from PCS in the future and I always recommend them to friends and work colleagues.

I spent around £1350 on my computer on a finance basis of so much per month etc, I was a little sceptical about paying so much money out like yourself as that's A LOT of money to shed out for something that if you haven't a clue what certain things are can be very expensive and could buy things you don't need. When I first started looking at gaming computers was in January just after I started my job as I knew I could afford to pay for one with my job etc but through finance as I wanted to build my credit rating up too. The first place I looked was the high street stores but after posting some specs of the computers online, the money you would be shedding out would be pointless as the parts would be obsolete in no time at all. Okay maybe a bit extreme but for what I wanted a computer for, even for the highest spec'd/priced would still not do the job.

Then it was to look at alienware, great computers if you want a fancy case that lights up and looks like one of those jelly alien things you used to get in small eggs (Does anyone remember those?!) but not when you look at the prices! I then looked at another provider who builds custom computers like PCSpecialist but their main expertese is overclocking computers when in all fairness I've learned if you're gaming there's not much need for overclocking! They have a forum just like this giving advice on what parts to get etc, well for the price I paid at PCS compared to the price I would have paid is a huge difference. The computer I would have bought don't get me wrong would have been great to look at (The case was one of the reasons I wanted it!) But the gpu etc they suggested were very out dated and wouldn't have been as powerful as my current machine.

Now for that price (Less than the computer from the other company, the other cost around £1400!) I got more for my money, a kick arse sound system which my neighbours seem to love more than I do! And a cool looking mouse and keyboard. The computer itself hasn't let me down once, and plays all my games at maximum settings no problem. And the added bonus of being able to upgrade systems that have been sold mean it's going to be a pain in the backside to stop myself ordering more parts for my machine! The only thing I regret is not buying my system sooner and sometimes I think I could have got more for my system if I went with an intel chipset but I'm happy overall. And with my brother just starting a new job he'll be looking for a new pc and well he already knows where he'll be going for it because he's seen the system I got. (Jealousy is a terrible thing! :p ) And me being a Yorkshireman I'm very wise of my money, and the bang you get for your buck with PCS. Well when I get enough money together I'll be coming back for another PC/Laptop. Sorry to babble on but I have nothing but good to say about PCS and would recommend them each and every time.

Cheers

HDMI gold cable - that's really funny. Give me your £8 and I will give you an HDMI cable that does the same thing that I found outside the house.

No thanks, I got the cable for the length and if the cable didn't work I could sent it back under warranty. So maybe funny, but at least I know for peace of mind its one less thing to worry about.

Well, I guess it's a nice colour. Much like Alienware I suppose. The MX14 I was going to buy weighs more than the 17 inch Optimus IV I am buying from here. The MX 14 has a 650 in it which is a nice card but specced with an I7 was £1398 - I got around a 20% discount off that but then I read a few things I didn't like. It might be well built but it sounds like a 747 taking off under load. So, bought the Optimus for £786.00 - made more economic sense. Also, the Alienware was a max 1600 x 900 which is a joke for a 'portable laptop costing 1400 quid' as my wife said before commenting that if I took the MX 14 to a meeting the rest of the people in the room would think I was having a mid-life crisis.
