Recent weather causing GPU temperatures to skyrocket.

So, I have a GTX 285, it's pretty old and whilst I've had issues with it before, I have always managed to resolve them. However since the recent "heatwave" began, my GPU temps have jumped from 40-50 to 50-60 whilst idle on 80% fanspeed (in-game I can't speak for what they reach as I don't have the chance to check) making playing games out of the option as my GPU ends up locking my PC forcing me to restart it manually. I don't have the money to get a caperble modern GPU that is power and cooling efficient due to being jobless. I recently dusted my PC too...

So right now I'm out of ideas, sure, I could try cranking up the fanspeed but I'd rather try and keep my GPU alive as long as possible till I can afford a new one.

1 top, 1 rear and 1 frontal fan(intake)... I've not touched the fan setup since PCSpecialist built it, because I've never had the need to. lol

You should consider wiping the fan fins to gt rid of dust an have a look at what the GPU ones are like these are a bit more tricky but you can still wipe some of it

Before you do that, make sure you unplug the PC and ground yourself

Some extra fans may be a good idea, your case can take 10 fans so you have plenty of room for them

As stated, I recently dusted my PC (2 weeks ago at most). Buying extra fans isn't really an option due to no money :p

that may have sparked a problem then if it was 2 weeks ago. Open the side and check every fan is working... you may have knocked a cable or something.

Oh, Im not sure. You are not the only one though, my graphics card has gone from 30-35c to 39/40c although that isnt a huge deal

its probably due to higher ambient room temperature.

You could always try removing the card and cleaning the fan blades using a cotton bud, but this will only help slightly if at all.

I know what the cause is, yet naturally I can't control the room temp without getting AC or somehow moving my system to a more ventilated area (which would mean no internet access D:)... I've resorted to downclocking my GPU to Nvidia's base settings for the 285 from ZOTAC's AMP! edition overclock settings and ramping the fan speed to 100%. It is causing a noticable (but bareable) performence drop in higher end games but thankfully for most there is no difference and at least now my temps don't exceed 83/84 at peak.

my temps have gone up a bit too! its 24.6c in my room! n my top gpu is 42, with the fan speed at 45%.
