Rendering Desktop

Hello everyone hope your are well, recently I got into the editing industry. I was hoping if someone could point me in the correct directions on what to look out for on a desktop rendering pc. I hope to produce 1080p content using editing software such as Sony Vegas.

My current desktop pc is not good, well the specs is outdated. On average it takes more than 10 hours to produce 720p content. The rendering time is way too long.

Hope someone can help me out.
Thanks

I have a 760 in that spec because I believe you can use it to speed up editing in Vegas. If you would make use of the GPU then you could up this to a 770 or 780 if you are serious about cutting the edit times and have the budget for it. Like Boozad said, give us a budget and we will go from that.

Hello thanks for your response appreciate it very much.
My budget is around £1500 - £2000, also I was hoping to use 2 or 3 monitors.

Thanks

Multi monitors wont be a problem with any modern GPU, most can now run 4 so 3 will be no problem.

Here is an absolute beast of a rendering spec.

Case
COOLERMASTER CM690 MKII ADVANCED CASE Pick whichever case you like the look of really.
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Six Core Processor i7-3930K (3.2GHz) 12MB Cache Beast of a processor, only step up from here is the 3970X which just isn't worth it

ASUS® P9X79 LE: INTEL® SOCKET LG2011
Memory (RAM)
16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 8GB KIT) I think 16Gb of RAM should be enough but not sure what you need maybe someone else could comment if 32Gb would be worth it for a professional user
Graphics Card
2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 770 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready If you are making use of the GPU for your projects then this is a good card, feel free to upgrade it to the 780 if you want the best performance. Will also run 3 monitors easily.
Memory - 1st Hard Disk
240GB INTEL® 335 SERIES SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 500MB/sR | 450MB/sW) Or the 520 series for faster speeds, but will handle what your currently working on

Thanks everyone for your response I really appreciate it.
I was hoping to have a CASE that will allow me to adjust the speed of the fans.
Also why do some people have more than 1 graphics card? Will it be ideal for me to have more than 1 graphic card?

Thanks

More than one GPU is typically for gaming so you get more frames per second, mostly when playing over more than one monitor. So no I don't see more GPU's helping you.

You could go with a fan controller, but I notice you say case specifically so you could go with the FRACTAL DEFINE R4, COOLERMASTER SILENCIO 650 or the COOLERMASTER CM STORM TROOPER depending what look you like. No reason why you should want the case to control the fans apart from possibly cost. A fan controller sits in one of the bays at the front of your case like the DVD drive and you can adjust from that.

Hey mantadog thanks for your response appreciate it bud, I had a look at the cases you mentioned and COOLERMASTER CM STORM TROOPER looks great.
So I think I will be purchasing that particular case. Does the COOLERMASTER CM STORM TROOPER have a fan controller? Just that I can't seem to find any info on that anywhere :(
I would like to play games on the pc perhaps in the near future. Will I be able to add more graphics card after few years? Will I be able to upgrade the parts after such period time lets say after 5 years or so?

Thanks bud

Hi.

To see the features of a particular case go to the configurator and click on the image of your chosen case, a list of it's features and more images will appear. Here is a video showing the fan controller on the case working. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANQJyWNVJOI

If you are looking to upgrade to a pair of GPU's in the future you will just need to make sure you have sufficient PSU capacity. a pair of 770's will need 850w and a pair of 780's will require a 1000w PSU. As for other components, 5 years is a long time and I would say after that length of time, unless you are just looking at more storage or something simple like that any more upgraded would be hard because you are starting of with a beast of a machine anyway.

Hello mantadog, your help is really appreciated bud :)
That's looks great but will the LED lights go off after few years if so can they be easily changed?

You seem to have a good understanding on the CASES, do you know any CASES that have more LED lights than the COOLERMASTER CM STORM TROOPER?
Just that I would love to have a flashy CASE with different LED lights lol

Thanks bud

LED's are rated fro 100,000 hours these days. That's about 11.5 years of running constantly so you probably wont need to worry about them failing in the lifetime of the PC.

As for other cases I have no idea, it's personal taste more than anything. However if you are up for a bit of fiddling yourself you can add all sorts of led strips and different coloured LED fans to give your case the look you want. Have a look at these type of things http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/modding-pc/lighting-led-strips-pc-computer. Really very easy to fit and you can have the exact look you want.

That's sounds great 11.5 years is more than enough lol. I have done some research on cases and find Coolmaster the perfect brand for cases. I love the design and structure everything looks easily organised which is what I wanted.
From the three cases below which one would you purchase bud:-
Coolermaster HAF 922 Case
COOLERMASTER CM STORM TROOPER
Coolermaster HAF-X Gaming Case

Also the website you posted looks great bud thanks. So after I have decided on the case can I choose any fans from the website that you posted? Obviously they must be the correct size etc?

Thanks bud

The Haf-X is an excellent, good cooling but quite big so you may want to check dimensions.

mantadog

Superhero Level Poster
The storm trooper or the Haf-x are both good. I would go with the storm trooper but like I said it's personal preference at the end of the day.

On the fans/lights for the inside, yes almost anything will work providing it is the right size. Just go for known brands and choose if you want max airflow for max cooling or silent type fans. I would go with the silent type because they are quiet and providing you have enough of them move enough air.

Hey keynes thanks for your response bud appreciate it very much. The size of the case is surely huge but it does look like it will fit just under my computer desk.

@mantadog, I have come to a conclusion after much research I have finally decided to purchase:- CM Storm Trooper. The comments on this case on many forums has been excellent, with cable management etc.

@keynes & @ mantadog, as I will be mainly rendering files which are going to be 1080p that means the desktop pc will be swtiched on most of the time. In order to achieve the best cooling I will opt for Air Cooling as its much cheaper. How can I achieve the maximum air cooling on the CM STorm Trooper?

Thanks bud :)

keynes

Multiverse Poster
Just add more chassis fans, I'd suggest purchasing the fans separately so you have the option to choose a colour scheme or high performance fans, I have added bitfenix spectre pro to my haf x.

mantadog

Superhero Level Poster
Yep, just add more fans BUT I would say don't go overboard. The case comes with 4 fans, so I would go with 4 fans first and see where you stand. You generally want to pull in cool air at the front of the case and exhaust it at the top and back of the case. So you will be looking at 2 x 120mm for the front and 2 x 140mm for the back/top. This should be more than ample even for the most demanding tasks.

Everything sounds great and cooling hehe :)
I will have a search around on what type/model fans to purchase for the case and report back to you awesome people :)

Is it possible to add 4 Fans and LED lights to the case? Or do the Fans need to have built in LED in order to have LED lights in the case?

Thanks

You could add 4 fans and also add led lights but I personally prefer the led fans to avoid additional cables/connections inside the case.
