rendering pc- 2nd year CGI- any advice?

Honestly? Your fixation on the 3950x means you have an unbalanced system....putting in a very high-end CPU and then just shoving in the cheapest power supply makes no sense to me...that's like buying a Bugatti and then opting for a Ford Fiesta engine! You've also got an old motherboard isn't really suitable for that chip, a slow hard drive and an old cooler. Basically, you have sacrificed on the basics of the build purely to get a CPU in that may not even work anywhere near it's capacity due to the rest of the build.

At the end of the day it's your money....I just hope you don't spend the next 10 years being disappointed with it's performance because you chose to ignore the advice you asked for. As to the 3070, I would be surprised if that power supply managed to power both the CPU and a 3070
Hi Nursemorph, initially the pc specialist software suggested a 550w power supply but in the end it would delay the build so upgraded to the 650w and so felt that was covered, will look again , motherboard haven´t really researched so will go back and look at that again, thanks ! have upgraded the cooler since original build and although it is is not the newest I have checked multiple comparison reviews that all state it performs just as well as the newer and more expensive ones at the expense of being more noisy, the logic was to take the best 240mm cooler to save also upgrading the case as the expense is running away with me . Everything I researched about rendering until now has put emphasis on the number of cores the processor to speed up the rendering process so that´s why am fixated on 3950x as has 16 cores, I have very little experience on the hardware side of things so really do appreciate all input and advice, this order can still be amended and the build wont start for 5 or 6 days so there is still time to change things around.

As described above. Your build is very poor and the choices you have made are not at all good.

Not much point in offering anything more as you don't seem open to the advise.
Hi Scott, we did take onboard previous advice and upgraded power supply/graphics card/cooler as much as we could afford to do in conjunction with a phone call to pcspecialist, I guess we still haven´t balanced the system enough judging by the posts coming back in the forum, perhaps in the end we should downgrade the processor to 8 core as nursemorph suggests in the build suggested above and spend more on a bigger case and a better cooling system I just find it hard to believe that will do a better job than the build we currently have, but you guys are the experts of course ! The logic we applied regarding lack of hdd storage and ram was that we can add/upgrade these easily as and when needed, this doesn´t apply to the motherboard of course , going to look at it all again today . thanks for your input

Being insistent on the 3950X this is what you want to be looking at. It has the case, motherboard, cooling solution and PSU all at a suitable level for such a system. Note that the storage is still way under what you would want to have for rendering but it's a start.

Hello again, thanks for putting this together, will see if I can increase the budget, but think have hit a wall after yesterdays amendments. In order to increase case size and cooling system which people are clearly emphasising is a must , I may just have to downsize the processor. I´m finding it all a bit of minefield , this forum is proving very useful, thanks for the advice.

As a middle ground you could opt for the 3900X (Or the XT). It's a monster processor as well and very good value. The rest of the build as it stood would still be recommended but at least you know you could drop in the 3950X equivalent next year should you want to upgrade.

Hey guys. I´ve been using my tower for the past two months now and as far as I can say, its an absolute beast. It has really helped me with being able to advance with my projects and let my imagination go further. Thank you guys for helping me get the right pc.
