Hi, I have inherited a Desktop PC from my late father in law (above spec, purchased from PC Specialist). The processor in the PC not compatible with Windows 11. Is it possible to upgrade the processor? What information do I need to provide to confirm? Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, the Z270 chipset only supports up to Kaby Lake CPUs (i.e. 7th gen). The 7700K is already the best CPU you can put on that motherboard.

You will not be reasonably able to upgrade it: it would be a completer system rebuild. That said, Windows 10 has another 18 months before it goes EOL: I'd make the most of it in that time and look towards a complete upgrade.

No, unfortunately you would need an 8th gen processor which is not compatible with that motherboard.

Great, thanks for the info. Would it be possible to back to a 6th Gen? I use the PC for work only, so dont need a lot out of the CPU. Cheers.
