RMA Rates?

I went in a local PC shop the other day that had custom laptops advertised on their façade. I asked about them and the fella said they don't do them any more. He confirmed they used to sell Clevo-based laptops and went on to explain that they stopped doing them as the quality of the base chassis went so far down that they were having to RMA 60% of those sold. He finally recommended Lenovo.

On here, I see more happy than unhappy customers, even though people tend to go out of their way more to complain than give positive feedback. Furthermore, Googling wider than these forums, I see plenty of positive opinion about Clevo laptops.

Does anyone know whether this 60% is anything like realistic and what PC Specialist's return rates are like? It's very hard to even find a major brand laptop as well-specced as I can select on here, never mind for the same price!

60% is company ending, any company receiving a 60% returns rate is not going to keep the lights on for long.

I have no idea what PCS % is like for RMAs but it is not 60%.

The cynical side of me says the shop had a sweet deal going with Lenovo and was looking to push you down that route. I don't know of anything that would give clevo laptops a 60% RMA rate, and if they were getting a 60% RMA rate for laptops they were selling then maybe they were doing something wrong.

I immediately didn't believe the 60% rate. It would end Clevo themselves, surely?! However, this shop did stop selling them and the only laptops they do sell are Asus and another brand (I forget which), but not Lenovo, so I'm not sure he had anything to gain by recommending them. Like you say, maybe they weren't too good at putting them together and testing them, or something - my own findings from a quick Google tell a different story to this guy, but it did make me think twice about a Clevo build.

just like mantadog said, 60% RMA is a game ender, there is no posible way to sustain that, what is more, or he simply lied to you so you bought a lenovo or they are the worst group of people to mount a custom laptop o_O i mean, clevo WONT sell you a 60% faulty chassis, it's not good for them
i might be a bad person, but i wouldnt buy ANYTHING in that pc shop, sorry

well, sorry to say my optimus IV is pretty dodgy - screen knackered (blacks showing as red, whites as cyan) and all the ports on the left side stopped working. RMA'd it which fixed the ports but the screen problem is back again and it's now a few months out of warranty. I would probably think twice about getting another, though it was a seemingly good proce for the spec so I supposed you do get what you pay for.

On the other hand I've had my Optimus IV for over 18 months now, and on a boat in a very corrosive and quite rough environment, and it's been as good as gold. I will buy my next PC/laptop from PCS again, in a heartbeat.

As for the original post, never ever take what any salesman tells you at face value, they always have an agenda.
