RMA worse off now then when I sent it.

Well I got my laptop back on Wenesday, and its in a worse state then when it left.

I was told that the GPU had been replaced 'fair enough' but after testing I saw that the temps are spiking violently into 80s and above within seconds.

So I decided to check the paste 'fair enough' maybe they put too much on in the RMA... after opening my laptop up I saw that there was no paste on the GPU at all... 'bone dry!!!' the GPU was benchmarked for 16 HRS in the RMA with no thermal paste?!! so a perfectly new GPU fried because no paste was applied prior to benchmaking, totally disgusted. so now I have to send it back again and be without it for another 3 weeks.. this laptop cost me 1600 and this is the after care service I get?!!!!

So upset about this!!

Did you get in touch with PCS about this? Hope you get it sorted quicker than 3 weeks this time (I'm assuming the delay was in part due to the increased lead times on the RMA department and maybe an out of stock component?) Hopefully this is resolved now and it won't take as long this time!

Fingers crossed.

My apologise that you have received your system in this state, the system should not be without paste and we will take steps to make sure it does not occur again.

I will get this turned around as an absolute priority, If you can reply to my email or voice mail as soon as possible then I can get this booked in with DPD.

And too be honest I really don't know if I've got the patience to wait 3 weeks to get my laptop back again... I've literally only just got it back from last time

Better a Titanfall than a GPUfall :)

Really hope you get it back soon though, be sure to give some of us a shout for a game of Titanfall

I know its bad! I'm a technician myself, surely pasting the heat sink is the first thing you think to do after installing a new GPU?! :/

Have you thought of buying some decent paste and doing it yourself? Either Artic MX4 or Noctua NT H1 thermal paste. Will do the job very well.

Make sure you dont use conductive pastes on the gpu though, (ie MX5)

I can only apologies for how you received the system back, we would never aim to disappoint a customer let alone forget to re-paste. When this does come back to us I will get this done at the highest priority.

Yeah I've already pasted the GPU but the temps are still far too high, I've spoken with PCs technical team and they first said to monitor the temps which I have done and they are still too high.

Before the RMA my GPU idled at 27 degrees and under load it was max 60 degrees

Now my new crispy GPU idles at 40-50 degrees and spikes to 70 degree in seconds and its only 70 degrees now because I pasted the GPU...

Just such a pain was hoping to unbox the laptop set up my Graphic config update my drivers and ready to play... but don't want to take the risk gaming with those sort of temps

Hi Moosh,

I know mistakes are made and I'm pretty forgiving, but its just such a pain.

70 degrees is 100% safe and in fact pretty good for a laptop GPU temp... 75 isn't much to be worried about ether, high 80's gets my attention 90's needs something fixing.

Idle might be on the high side, but give the past a few days to bed in first.
