RTX 3080ti 12gb

Hey Guys

So with the 3080ti on the verge of being announced and released for roughly Mid April. Do we reckon this may ease the stock issue. Personally i am thinking of upgrading my order to one of these when they get announced but have no idea how long i will have to wait if i do this. I can imagine a lot of people doing the same.

Then its also the debate on whether the extra 2000 cuda cores and 2gb of Memory is worth the extra couple of 100 £...

What are your guys thoughts?

Depends if you have a £1k+ monitor to justify getting a 3080ti for!
Well i'm not fussed about 4k 1440p is fine for me i'm more concerned about a high as possible fps and performance which i know ill get with the standard 3080 but if i upgrade to a 3080ti i may get my pc sooner with how the market is that's my thinking anyway :)

If 1440p is fine for you, you may as well get a 3070Ti... or a standard 3070. You're throwing money away with a 3080.

It's completely pointless speccing anything higher than a 3070 for 1440p, just would never be used. Would be pointless.

As a 4K Gamer, I'm hoping to pick up a RTX 3080 Ti, when it launches and hope to grab one before all the scalpers / miners do away with them all,

If it does plan to release around Mid April, it'll still maybe a few months before I get my ideal 4K 144hz monitor as the ones I'm after are due to release around summer time or just after, if they don't get delayed anymore🤞🙏🤞.

These are my top 3 4K monitors I'm after for the 3080 Ti and the next gen now current gen consoles,

Asus ROG Swift PG32UQ - at a guess, this will likely be £1200+

ViewSonic Elite XG320U - at a guess, this will likely be £1200+

LG 27GP950 - at a guess, this will likely be £900+

I've also seen some advice given out to those getting 3080 / 3090 with there system's to go with a 850w PSU, though on Nvidia's site it shows a minimum of needing 750w PSU,
I have a Corsair RMx 750w PSU in my current system,
My PC spec's here... https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/threads/my-new-4k-gaming-pc.65854/
but if i do need to go up to 850w, I'm wondering if it's ok to swap out my PSU from my old PCS PC as that's a Corsair RM 850w PSU, if its needed / recommended for the 3080 Ti, though it's only an RM model not an RMx.

As for the OP wanting / getting a 3080 Ti for 1440p, all i'll say, if there adamant on getting a 3080 Ti, I will gladly trade you my 2080 Ti for it especially if they go the way of the rest of the 30 series card's and I'm unlucky to get one, as i'll put it to better use, as I game at 4K.

Founders editions require 750, AIB's suggest 850 as a minimum.

The 3080ti will likely need more though.

Chances are the 3080ti will have a low hashrate, purposely to deter miners. The 6700XT has i think half the hashrate of the 5700XT and are surprisingly not in terrible stock, like what the high hashrate cards are.

So i could be looking at swapping out my RMx 750w for my older RM 850w or even looking at buying a RMx 1000w,

Here's hoping I can just swap out and over to my RM 850w when the time comes or i'll have to add a RMx 1000w to my shopping list.

RM860W is a really decent PSU still.

If it helps, I'm still running my PSU I bought in 2009, it's been in 3 builds so far and still bulletproof.

It's not an RM but an HX, but still corsair, they're strong PSU's.

Does remain to be seen what the 3080ti will require though, I'm perplexed about this GPU exactly where it's fitting in the power envelope.

The reason I went with a 750w with my build was to try keep the cost of my PC build down, though it may not by much, but better than nothing, and if I ever needed to up my PSU I've got my older 850w at hand that i can scavenge from my old PCS PC, if required, also at the time of my build a 1000w would have been overkill for what i needed,

The 3080 Ti I'm looking at, is likely going to be EVGA's IC3 or FTW3, most likely the FTW3 just match the RGB aesthetics of my build,

Here's hoping i can get away with just swapping in my 850w PSU than spending more, but if I have to get a 1000w PSU, then so be it.

This is the problem with scrimping on the PSU, you’ll pay far more in the long run if you don’t allow for upgrades. Overspeccing doesn’t matter, the build will only use what’s required, and the lower the threshold on the PSU, the better it’s efficiency so it actually saves you money on electricity as well.

Never worth scrimping on the PSU.

You put my mind at ease with this, i'll pick up a RMx 1000w about a week or two before the release day of the 3080 Ti,

I wasn't expecting upgrades to be so power hungry, but to think about it, I'm planning to do upgrades to the GPU a number of times over my build, more game drive storage, maybe faster RAM but that's not for some time ( maybe years ) and a CPU but that's many, many years away but hopefully something that still compatible with the AMD X570 platform before a complete new Platform build is needed ( which should be more then 7+ or more years from now ).

That's a good idea in the long term.

PSU's will last years if they're decent quality so buying expensive actually pays for itself with how long they last.

Things are changing so fast at the moment, with AMD's rise in both CPU and GPU, ARM rising through the ranks, everything is so rapidly expanding and improving, it's best to be prepared for whatever may happen.

I don't think any of us could have been prepared for the amount of power the current GPU's use, that was a real surprise. I think 1000W is a safe tier to aim for for the long term future in mind.

I just had a look around at the price's of a RMx 1000w PSU, most online stores I've seen are around £160-£170 price range, but most are out of stock at the moment,

Just out of curiosity, I log into my PCS account to look at the upgrades options, I can get the upgrade to a RMx 1000w for £143, but I can't proceed without having to add a hard drive? but i don't want a hard drive, just the PSU, Though i'm not ready to buy one just yet, as i said, it'll be a week or two before the release of the 3080 Ti,

Strange it wants me to add a hard drive just so i can only upgrade my PSU.
It shows that I've selected a secondary drive and that i need to swap it to the primary drive, I've not selected any drives as i don't need any, only the PSU.

Yeah, it’s a bug in the configurator, someone else had this the other day. I’d give a call or use the web chat and try for the upgrade through that.
