RTX 3080ti - older 4K Monitor compatibility

Hi all... I've been using a Philips ultra hd 2160p monitor that's over 6 years old with my old setup.

Just purchased new setup from PCSPECIALIST which includes an RTX 3080 ti.

Probably a stupid question but: I'm guessing I'll need a newer 4K monitor to appreciate the power of the 3080 ti?

Any advice would be truly appreciated...

Thanks in advance.

Hiya, can you post the model number of the monitor you currently have and the full specs of your PCS system?

Oh dear. I'm going to say something you're not going to like, but that PC just isn't going work, it's gonna be really poor.

For one thing it's on an ancient platform that was DOA, that's aside from slow drives, and totally unsuitable case, PSU and I'm guessing cooler. Also don't understand the RAM

I would strongly recommend returning it and getting some advice on something far far far better for the equivalent cash.

Seriously.

It's not gonna work, it'll crash and overheat within a matter of months. That's aside from generally poor performance anyway.

Hey thanks Spyder!

Hmmm, I'm confused- why did the site allow me to put together such crap? When I pressed 'proceed with purchase' I'm told everything is OK, compatible! I'm no expert so how the hell am I supposed to know!?

I put the order in only 4/5 hours ago so maybe PCS will be good enough to inform me of this via email? What do you think?

Thanks for your time....

All the configurator does is list components compatible on that chipset.

But within that you can build anything from a basic office computer, or even a NAS drive through to a multicore semi professional editing suite.

You have to know what you're doing, you can't just throw anything together, you have to know how to balance it all, as it's a system it's only as good as it's weakest part.

I'm no expert so how the hell am I supposed to know!?
You're not, that's why you ask for advice, like you would with buying a house, or buying a car, pretty much any system, you'd ask for advice from specialists who know what they're doing.

Not sure what you mean? Inform you of what?

when the guys are putting it together; i'm assuming they're experts & see it the way you do therefore informing me of crap choices, suggesting alternatives... or will PCS just send it to me knowing it will do as you say?

They put together and test what you order, best thing you can do is as @SpyderTracks said earlier

And give this a read, and come back in a couple of weeks once the new hardware is on pre order and get something put together

Godlike
Whatever your use case, I would recommend cancelling and getting some advice on the spec that you want. If this is not for professional use i.e you use a PC or laptop for work purposes and you urgently need a machine to keep working on, I would also advise holding out for the new hardware releases. We have new Ryzen CPUs later this month, and new GPUs from both Nvidia and AMD later on this year. If this is a WANT PC, and not a NEED PC, you will get a whole lot more bang for your buck by resisting the urge to click buy for just a little longer. If however, this is a NEED PC we will also be happy to spec you out something far more suitable for your budget.

PCS will build whatever they’re asked to, they’ll only point out flaws if you ask for advice.

It’s the customers job to know what they're ordering.
