Ryzen 7 2700X or i9 9900k for virtualisation

I am going to be running VM Workstation on Windows 10 for some testing (have to use this setup for compliance, don't ask). I have spec'd up two almost identical PCs. One has the Ryzen 7 CPU (circa 900£) and the other has the i9 CPU (circa 1200£).

For a bit of light gaming, but mostly VMs, which CPU is best, and if it is the i9, is the price premium worth it?

I need to get this testing underway quite quickly, so waiting for the new AMD CPUs is probably not an option.

TIA

Let's just say that I cant wait, how do these two CPUs stack up against each other for virtualisation?

I would go with the 2700x if you really have to get it done now. That way you can swap the chip out with the Zen2 when it arrives.
