Screen not turning on, shows up on external projector

Hi, my laptop lid seems to be broken, when i turn it on the screen stays black but i can hear everything whirring away in the background and hear all the relevant bings and bongs of the system coming alive. Connected it to a projector and that shows the screen absolutely fine, just the laptop screen itself stays black. Is this a connection issue i could fix myself or would it need a professional to replace? TIA!

Do you get any display at all, like when you cold boot it do you see the BIOS screen? This could point to a software issue rather than hardware.

If you shine a torch direct on the screen and look as close as possible, do you see any windows desktop image when it's booted up? This could point to a failed backlight.

No screen at all when turned on but makes the lil windows noises, but when turned on attached thru hdmi to a projector it all boots up as normal. I'll try the torch trick tonight and get back to you, thank you so much

That would suggest either the screen panel has fully failed, or perhaps the ribbon cable that supplies power to it has deteriorated and split.

Either way though best to raise an RMA with PCS and at least get a quote for a replacement screen.
