Simulation Gaming PC

Hi,
Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong section. I'm hoping you could help to suggest specs to help me build a pcspecialists PC.
For a bit of background on what I'll be using this PC for:
*I really only play simulation games like, TS4, Rollercoaster Tycoon World (I've got a laptop) and when i play these games, when the houses/parks start to get bigger it gets really juddery and slow. I also play Transport fever and cities in motion, but they're much less resource hungry that RCTW.
*I occasionally edit/tweak photo, but not that often.
Theyre literally the most demanding things I will do. Obviously from time to time I'll create documents/browse the net, but nothing that requires a huge amount of resources.

I know I need a good processor, so was thinking a core i5 or i7 but I don't really know what I'm choosing when it comes to things like motherboard, ram (which MHz should I choose?).
Also with regards to harddrive, should I get the OS installed on an SSD and install my games/applications on it and use a second HDD for photos, videos, Doc's etc?
I don't really have a set budget, but would like to keep it around £800-£1000.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

What's your current spec? Will help get a sense of what kind of upgrade £800-1000 would offer you :)

Also I assume you're gaming / simulating at 1080p?

I gather from a quick google that RCTW can just run very poorly, and see people with high end systems somewhat comparable to the above complaining of this. So money might not be a miracle cure for performance issues.

The i5 6300HQ you have isn't a bad CPU. The 7700k is a good deal faster, though, and will be bolstered at least a little by fast RAM. I saw a post by someone with an i5 6600k complaining of 90% CPU usage, so the extra threads of the i7 may help.

The 960M is quite weak, and a GTX 1060 3gb will be a huge upgrade.
