Skylake Processor Question

I was wondering if the following spec would be compatible because skylake processors only take DDR3L or DDR4 ram yet PC Specialist are offering to install DDR3 ram?

Processor: i5 Quad Core Processor i5-6600 (3.3GHz) 6MB Cache
Memory: 16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X FURY DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (2 x 8GB)

Is this configuration compatible?

Also, I would love it if someone could explain to me why the new generation of CPUs have a lower base frequency than the 4th generation CPUs, is this something to do with saving power?

Thanks.

I believe it can use DDR3L as it uses a lower voltage. Maybe call them to ask, it could be a typo or something. I've read that standard DDR3 can damage the CPU over time.

Odd, you cant order that configuration :)

Always get DDR4 with a Skylake processor. Those should be the only ones available to choose in the configurator.

Okay guys, just got off of the phone with PC specialist and it is DDR3 ram that is offered with the system that I was looking at because the motherboard takes DDR3 (and the new socket type for the skylake processors) and they made the very valid point that the manufacturers of the motherboard wouldn't put DDR3 slots onto a board with a LGA1151 socket if they hadn't configured the two to work together.
This is the motherboard: https://www.asus.com/uk/Motherboards/B150-PRO-GAMING-D3/
But reading more online (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/silent-circle-blackphone-2-launch,30183.html) it doesn't look promising.

As mentioned by George, it looks like the default voltages for the ram is what cause the issues, so lower voltage or maybe even higher voltage will be fine. Either way, I am watching the Skylake news at the moment, it also appears there is a option on the chip that is disabled, previous gen had it disabled as well. The next batch fo chips I think was 28th October onwards will have this feature enabled.

If I remember for reading it is a feature that does not effect normal consumers anyway.

Ordered a pc in the home pc section yesterday with skylake and ddr3, little concerned now seeing this thread.

What you can do, is to underclock the memory to a lower voltage i.e 1.35V. Have a poke around in your system's BIOS settings when it arrives, should be able to tweak it there.

If you ordered it on Wednesday I suppose it's still in pre-production, so you could amend your order to DDR4 if you'd rather.
