SLI Problem

Having a strange problem that only started a couple of days ago.
Running two 780's in SLI and all was working well.
Had a replacement 780 sent out by PC Specialists after one failed. Inserted replacement and all worked well for a while.

Started an iRacing session and all of a sudden monitor went blank but I could still here the car engine and other sounds.
I run two 27 inch monitors and left one went blank/grey and right one blank/red.
Tried a couple of other games and same problem.
Ran a quick burn in test with Furmark and as soon as 1st 780 hit 60°, screens went blank.

Disabled SLI in nvidea cntrl panel but problem remained. Run any game and both screens went blank.
Physically removed 780 from slot one and ran test and games with remaining 780 ~ all was good.
Tried running one 780 in slot one and screens went blank.
Checked all cables were connected and both cards seated in board.
Ran both cards individually in slot two and all was good so it seems I can't run SLI or any card from slot one.

Hey Gazza

Can you tell me what power supply you have, also what mother board have you got and what is the Bios version?
Did you check each GPUs base clock settings and make sure none are overclocked. Is your system fans clean from dust and case has sufficient cooling

Thanks for replying Buzz.

Power supply = Corsair HX 1050
Motherboard = Asus Sabertooth X79
Bios version = 4701
Video driver = 347.25

Have tried two earlier video driver versions and still no joy.
GPU clock settings have never been over-clocked and are identical.
No dust problems with any of the fans and I took case side off to make sure there was more than sufficient cooling for a couple of hours trying to run SLI and still had the crash.

How long ago did you update the bios to that version? the only other newer version is in Beta. In the bios is the PCI Express bandwidth set to auto? (Under Advanced/onboard device config)
also check what link speed your pci slots are set to. (Under Advanced/System agent configuration I think) Should be Gen 3 for full compatibility.

I usually check bios updates every 6 months and I updated to 4701 approx 2 months ago.
I saw the beta version but obviously never update to a beta bios.

Both items you listed are correct with your information.
Strange problem, but thankfully the single card on the 2nd slot is still working with no problems.
