[Solved] Looking For Just A Good All Round Monitor

Hi everyone 👋. Currently I'm running a laptop as my main display and I have an old LG Flatron W2363D that's only capable of 1920x1080 @ 60Hz as my second monitor. I'm trying to upgrade my office environment to make it a bit more up-to-date 😊 . I'm in the market for a new monitor which will become the main display and the laptop screen will be the 2nd. About 15 years ago I used to know quite a lot about the whole gaming PC scene, now technology has come on leaps and bounds and it seems like I know nothing 😄. Anyway onto what I'm after... I just want a good monitor and it's hard to search for something like that as everything seems to go on about "the best monitor" which normally costs a zillion pounds :D.

- I'm looking for something between 23" and 27". I could go bigger but I don't think it will be in my budget and might be a bit overkill for what I need.
- If the price tag can start with something like £2xx that would be ideal. Obviously if it starts with a £1xx then I'm all ears 😂.
- Main use will be watching YouTube videos and video editing plus the odd bit of gaming but nothing too serious. With the video editing I don't edit anything too serious so I'm not in the market for some posh video editing screen just yet 😁.
I have no idea on the pros and cons of panel types so I have no idea what's good and what's bad. All I know is that I went onto some sites and got met with a walls of monitors for sale which all looked the same to me 😄. Like I said above, this monitor will be hooked up to my laptop which has a HDMI port on it and a Mini Displayport. I've been told the Mini Displayport is the way forwards? In case it's of any use, here are my laptops specs:

Thanks to anyone that can put forward any suggestions. On my shortlist so far are the following...

AOC Q27G3XMN/BK Quad HD 27" VA Mini LED Gaming Monitor: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/a...a-mini-led-gaming-monitor-black-10265220.html
ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS Quad HD 27" IPS LCD Gaming Monitor: https://www.currys.co.uk/products/a...27-ips-lcd-gaming-monitor-black-10263029.html
Alienware 27 Gaming Monitor - AW2725DM: https://www.dell.com/en-uk/shop/ali...5dm/apd/210-bqwq/monitors-monitor-accessories (It's the QHD 2560x1440 Fast IPS 180Hz screen for £239 I've been looking at).
I've no idea if that Alienware monitor is any good, I just know from my youth that Alienware were the ultimate bits of kit to have (before they got bought by Dell). So I thought I'd throw that one into the mix for you all to vet 😁. Thank you for reading this thread and any help that you can give. 👍

If you're still happy with 1080p (and that's really what your GPU is meant for) then there are some decent options...but I do understand the preference to go to a bigger & higher resolution screen.

If you're happy to go to £249, then that AOC you've linked to is one of the best value gaming monitors out there. If you're more after a productivity screen with a bit of gaming ability, then here's a couple of more budget-oriented options:

Thanks @TonyCarter for those suggestions 👍. I'm off to have a watch/read of the reviews of them 😁.

I probably didn't make it clear in my opening post, but I'm more than happy to move up to a 1440p monitor providing my laptop can do that. I've heard that if I run a mini displayport cable to displayport cable then it should be possible to run resolutions greater than 1080p. Hopefully that's correct? 😊

That laptop should support up to 4k, it was your original monitor that was limiting it to 60hz.

I'm not saying that laptop-spec 4060 will give you blistering FPS at 1440p or 4k, but it will give you a display on them at least, and 1440p gaming should be possible - even if not at ultra settings.

Thanks for clearing that up @TonyCarter 😁👍. If I game, I generally keep it to 1080p as it stops the laptop fans from spinning their nads off 😄. Hopefully with a gaming headset, I'll be able to play in 1440p (even if it means turning the graphics down a bit) and not have to worry about the fans 😂.

Unless any more suggestions come in my shortlist is now down to 2:

Just to round this thread off, I ended up buying the AOC monitor and I am loving it! 🤩 I have it connected up to the laptop as a main display using a mini DP to DP cable and it is working very nicely indeed! Not tried any games on it yet but it has PLENTY of real estate to make editing very nice. 😁
