sound causing mini crashes during gameplay

Hi

I've had an issue for the past few months with my sound causing mini crashes during gameplay. This has taken me forever to figure out but if I mute all sounds, the crashes stop entirely.

My PC is a couple of years old but never had any problems with it until now. I've recently done a complete reformat (trying to find the problem) and only just stumbled across it.

I'm not sure how to fix this though - wouldn't know where to start with sound issues. Any advice please?

And are you using the audio from HDMI i.e. via the GPU, or audio from the motherboard via the front/rear of the case?
