Spec to Check

The following would be pretty much ideal for everything you could throw at it. The only 2 potential increases to the spec to consider would be the 2060 Super over the 2060 and the X570 motherboard over the B450.

The 2060 Super is probably the best bang for your buck. The 2060 has you covered though so don't think for a second this is a necessity. It's just a nice to have given the expense of the 2060 to begin with.

The X570 motherboard has the latest chipset and has PCIe4.0. This allows for faster drives in the future. It also has fantastic VRMs so if you wanted to pop in one of the latest CPUs down the line it would have the power control to cover you without worry. The B450 is a great board and ideally suited for this build but it doesn't look upwards in CPU spec, it will take the latest chips from AMD (at least it's expected to) but going to a higher grade CPU, such as a 16 core, needs good VRMs.

It all depends what the future plans are for the PC and whether you would be looking to upgrade or replace. If upgrade is in your mind then the X570 would be worth considering if you believe it to be in the next year or 2 you would look to do so. Spending an extra £65 now would save you £200 then. If you're more in line to keep it for 5 years then just fully replace it then the B450 is absolutely spot on.

Thanks for this. So this would be a fast computer that could handle multitasking, whilst recording videos and live-streaming, easily?

No, I don't plan to upgrade it over the next few years. I'm looking for a computer that's going to last me for some time.

Yes, that would do it all at a very good level. It'll be incredibly quick for daily use and it should render very nicely. As you are screen sharing etc, and not gaming, the 3700X has you more than covered.

In your videos.... do you do a lot of effects or etc? I've you don't really do a lot of effects to a high level the 1660 Super would likely have you covered. The GPU, for rendering, is aimed at processing effects and the likes. The processor does most of the grunt work for standard rendering.

I'll be adding some effects to my videos but nothing too heavy; you said the 1660 Super should cover me in this case, but the spec above has a 2060 (but it's not a Super). Is that better?

It is a better card, but not by much. BUT it has tensor cores which can offer a non linear amount of extra power for hardware acceleration. If your budget allows, it would be better to go with the 2060

It's VERY hard to judge unfortunately. You would have to be the one to determine that really. It's all about how much usage you're going to put on the GPU. The GPU doesn't render video.... it renders effects. If you're using effects heavily, the better the GPU the faster it's going to render.

The 2060 is the baseline for professional content. The 1660 Super would be more aimed at hobbyist. The further up the professional ladder you go, the more you're looking for the GPU to carry some of the can.

I would suggest at this level the standard 2060 has you covered. You wouldn't notice TOO much difference with the Super anyway.

Great, thanks Scott, much appreciated.

In case it wasn't intended, Scott added 2 separate M2 drives to the spec listed on this page. If it wasn't intentional anddependent on drive space needed, you could always drop the 1TB M2 drive....have the ADATA M2 512 drive as your primary drive (I have this drive and it is excellent) and the SATA as your secondary drive. Dropping the second drive will save you £96
The second drive is as a scratch drive I believe which is important for the OP's uses.

Hey guys, I'm trying to put my order through, and these messages have popped up:

  • 1. You have selected a 550W power supply, but based on our calculations you actually only need a 450W power supply. We have calculated your specification to require around of 374W power including a 20% allowance. Although it is not a mandatory requirement to select a lower wattage power supply, doing so will save you money and the last thing we'd like to do is over charge you!

I'm guessing I should stick with this power supply because it's 'ultra quiet', and I need the new system to be as quiet as possible. What do you think?

  • 2. We note that you have selected an M.2/PCI-E SSD drive and a mechanical hard drive under the primary hard disk drive option. Please confirm whether you would like your operating system (OS) to be installed on the SSD drive or on the mechanical hard drive:
Scott, can you help me out here, as you've configured this system for me?
Thanks!

Can you help me out here, as you've configured this system for me?

Hopefully you remember what I need it for....

To jog your memory, you described it as I'm "looking for a silent, fast, multi-tasking machine that is also excellent for content creation and can tick all the boxes."

Remember, I'll be doing a lot of screen capturing, video recording, live-streaming, whilst multitasking. As well as video editing (I'll be using it to create YouTube videos and online courses).

You recommended the above system/specs, mentioning that you'd included a scratch drive.

Does the OS need to be installed on the SSD drive or mechanical hard drive?

Thanks,
Zoe.

Hi Zoe,

The 550w option was for the TXm model, rather than the power. You can ignore this message, it's just for information in case you wanted to save the money.

You want the OS on the M2 drive, definitely. This is what allows the system to boot in 10 seconds and allows fast loading of programs etc.

I've assigned the OS to the M2 drive, and I've stuck with the TXm model.
