Startup Apps not loading on startup - possibly linked to monitor?

Hi all

I am getting a strange bug, whereby my startup apps aren't fully loading up. It looks like it happens when I have my monitor (Gigabyte M34WQ) plugged in, in particular the USB connection for the KVM functionality. My laptop is plugged in via the USB C connection to the display port in Alt mode.

I can't figure out what could be causing this issue - any ideas would be appreciated. Specs below:

EDIT: I just tried unplugging the USB C Display Port and left the USB KVM connection in, restarted the laptop and the startup apps loaded properly. It is definitely something going on between the monitor and the laptop but really no clue what it could be.

And what makes you think they're not loading up? Are they not showing in taskmgr? Or is it just that you're not seeing the window itself?

It's pretty much everything that is meant to load up when I start windows, except for the NVIDIA Settings and bluetooth, which looks like they open every time.

windows defender, the PCS Control Centre, Dropbox, onedrive, discord etc - all those apps don't start up automatically, unless my monitor is completely unplugged from power up of the laptop. If I go and open them manually, they still open/run without any problems. Very odd.

The programs are definitely not starting up, nothing in the system tray etc. Typically when windows boots up I'll get the icons showing up in the system tray, and any relevant windows popping up (e.g. discord opens up). In this case nothing loads up - it's almost as if something is interrupting the startup procedure?

So the processes aren't running in taskmgr?

There's a big difference between an app just not showing in the GUI and the process actually not running.

are you looking at the sys tray on the primary monitor as by default it will only show on the one, not if the desktop is extending to a second

Thisll be my last comment on the matter. It’s one of my biggest bug bears since the pandemic that people ask for advice and think it’s acceptable just to post one comment every few hours when they feel like it. It’s obviously not very important if you can’t take the time out to actually have a conversation on the topic.

and those that post a query and then say “oh, I’m not by the pc right now, I’ll get back to you”, you guys can do one too

if you’re thinking “I have a life”, then you’re not a pc gamer quite frankly. I don’t care if you’re saving lives, or stopping nuclear war by disabling a warhead, if you’re not by your pc, you’re not gaming, ergo, how are you breathing or talking??? If you have your gaming laptop with you whilst doing those things i‘ll allow it, but then you’d have time to reply swiftly!

Rant over

wow - ok

I do appreciate the help and time you guys give out - and sorry for not responding immediately. Is having to help take care of my 3 year old on a bank holiday monday enough of a reason to not be glued to my computer?
