This is my first laptop from PCSpecialist. I have had 4 PCS desktops before and have been more than happy with them. Although this is by no means the cheapest computer I have bought (I spent about £1,200), I went with PCS rather than any other brand because I could be sure of getting exactly what I wanted, made to measure, with a clean install of Windows 7 (I have tried but cannot stand Windows 8) and one or two features which I have found almost impossible to get in the UK. I knew it would be well built, thoroughly tested and free from the sort of junk software that so often comes bundled with branded machines.
I am a linguist and need to use a Spanish keyboard for the ease of access it gives to common accent keys. PCS supplied this without batting an eyelid. I wanted the system software installed on an SSD rather than a hard disk, for speed. No problem. I am also a photographer and needed full connectivity through a range of ports to other devices, cameras, cards and so on. All I could have wanted came as standard. I needed lots of storage, excellent image quality and a slimline, lightweight chassis for portability: the Cosmos Series: 15.6" Matte Full HD IPS LED Widescreen provided all of this. I needed the quietest laptop I could find and I got one which is all but silent.
In short, I am delighted. At this stage, barely two weeks into ownership, I have only two slight concerns. The first is battery life: I seem to be getting barely 4 hours; but then I have asked PCS to put a lot of things in the box and am running a lot of programmes. I shall probably invest in a second battery. The second is my decision to request Solid State Drive of only 100GB. I have almost finished loading all the programmes I use on a regular basis and it is already 60% full. Though I plan to keep all my data files, images and so forth on the 1TB hard disk, I am wondering whether I should not have allowed for more expansion on the main system drive. Still, I suppose I can always ask PCS to replace it with a bigger one in due course.
Finally, it looks good. I am not a fan of logos or brands. I like clean, unfussy lines. The grey case is robust and refreshingly free from badges or adverts. It looks like a professional piece of kit, which it is. If ever I need another one, I know where I'll be buying it.
