Thoughts on this build?

Hi all,

Below is the new PCS order I'm hoping to place, with a few parts ported over from my current build, marked "[Own]". I'll be gaming on a variety of titles, including AAA, hoping to hit 144fps on High - Ultra settings, on my 1440p 144Hz monitor. Would this be sufficient and is £1909 a decent price for all this (obviously excluding parts marked "[Own]"? Thanks!

PCS only make full builds; you will need something similar to what I've specced out for you, with RAM and a PSU. I'm almost certain the case is the only component PCS let you ship in, mods please do correct me if I'm wrong.
3080 is not worth it at 1440p until you get to a superwide monitor, which has literally double the number of pixels as the monitor you've shown. The 3070 will be a better fit for gaming at high graphics settings, and will mean less time in the 3080 queue.

Thanks - indeed was going to order the minimum RAM possible for build then replace. PSU-wise, spoke to a rep who's going to check with the production team and get back to me tomorrow; fingers crossed!

Interesting about the 3070 vs 3080, thanks - will look it up; my thought was to future-proof.

Future-proofing: That's a highly contentious area...some would argue that you should get the best possible GPU regardless of your monitor to "future-proof" yourself. The opposing argument would be, by the time you utilise the power of the 3080, you most likely will want the newest GPU around at that time given current rates of advance so you have effectively spent extra for no benefit.

Of course, the price difference between a 3070 and a 3080 is pretty low currently making the 3080 better value for performance, unless you won't utilise the extra in which case it's money wasted. Another thing to consider: A 3080 build ordered now may not be built until possibly March/April, maybe even later depending on supplies...a 3070 build will be quickier (no clue on how much quicker though). Then again, the 5900x may have a wait as well.
Indeed yeah. I'll research whether I'll actually use the extra performance of a 3080 over a 3070 at 1440p - got about 15 tabs open on the other screen to research haha. Thrown in the 3060Ti into the mix too:
3060 Ti - £501
3070 - £618
3080 - £778

@SpyderTracks what's your take?

3080 is completely wasted at 1440p.

You don’t futureproof a GPU, overspeccing a gpu nets you worse performance at a higher cost.

3060Ti is fine for 1440p, i use a 2070 and get a nice 120fps playing Halo
