Thoughts on this spec

Hey everyone, thanks to anyone in advance who can give me their opinion, thoughts or advice on this spec, been quite a while since I made my own custom PC, so little rusty in some areas! This rig is for heavy gaming.

I know the power is a little excessive, but it really isn't that much more and I'll probably use this rig for a long time, but if it really, really is pointless, then fair enough. Motherboard wise, I'm pretty clueless on, but the X79 from all the reviews I've read seems to be a solid choice. I've been told to stick with a quad core processor for now as it will be better and more efficient than a six core, which people have said is only really needed if you're doing heavy editing etc. Likewise, 16gb ram should be just fine, but if anyone thinks 32gb is needed, let me know please!

The SSD drive is the area I'm most interested in getting opinions on though. Not had a SSD before, and I'm more than a little curious(anxious even) as to whether 240gb is enough, especially as I will be playing a lot of games on here, including MMORPG's, which usually come with a pretty heavy amount of GB's.

I've neglected to pick a soundcard out, as I will pretty much always be using a headset exclusively, and high end ones at that, so shouldn't really need one.

Windows 7 vs 8? Has 8 ironed out all the complaints people had about it, or is it still a better option to stick with 7?

Display is the last main question I have. From what I can see and read online, the 2460 is a pretty solid choice. Again this is all for gaming, so if anyone thinks there is a better screen out there that I should really look at getting, then any pointers would be awesome.

Other than those main concerns, is there anywhere you would advise I spend a little less on for the same performance, or areas where it would be worth spending just a little more to get an even better experience and system.

If its just for gaming you can save a fair pile of cash.

Case
CORSAIR GRAPHITE SERIES™ 600T WHITE MID-TOWER CASE
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-4770 (3.4GHz) 8MB Cache More than good enough for gaming, the extra clock speed isn't important, the platform for the 4770 is cheaper overall so best stick with that
Motherboard
ASUS® Z87-A: ATX, USB3.0, SATA6GB/S, SLi, XFIRE Nice board, plenty of features and upgrade room
Memory (RAM)
16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 8GB KIT) Overkill for gaming, 8 is plenty at the moment
Graphics Card
3GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 780 Ti - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready Again probably overkill for 1080p gaming, but if you want the frame rates to take advantage of the display then the 780ti will do it.

Memory - 1st Hard Disk
240GB INTEL® 530 SERIES SSD, SATA 6 Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 490MB/sW) Should be enough for most people.
2nd Hard Disk
2TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD2003FZEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm) faster 2ndary drive for anything you cant fit on the SSD, will load slower but is still a very nice drive.
1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
Power Supply
CORSAIR 650W CS SERIES™ MODULAR 80 PLUS® GOLD, ULTRA QUIET (£69) Enough for the current setup and small upgrades like more HDD's
Processor Cooling

The display and peripherals are personal choice, too expensive for me but they will certainly perform well.

Cheers for the advice! Would you say Windows 8 is pretty solid now then? Been overseas for a while now, before going all I heard was hate and complaints about it.

Windows 7 vs windows 8 is a personal preference, as far as I know there are no issues with windows 8. There are a few other threads discussing the same issue.
I think the gtx 780 ti is overkill for a 1920x1080 resolution, if you are buying that monitor I would get the gtx 780 instead.

Is there a monitor that would be better able to take advantage of the card? I more or less picked that one on a whim, one of the things I was going to look into more later, as Im still quite behind on my monitor gen.
