Three year upgrade yey or ney

Hey there,

Long time no post :) I'm about due for my three year upgrade however I've not really been feeling the need so much this time.

I currently have 2x 1440p monitors but game on the one - thinking of upping to 4k.

You can see my current build in the signature. Could I have opinions on if I should get a new build or wait for something new :) The budget for the build is 2k, no windows or monitors/peripherals needed.

Tasks are gaming of course, streaming and VS instances when I need them.

Thanks in advance, Benjamin

I would certainly wait until the Kaby Lake processors are out, probably January but if it is running well the Cannon Lake is due out in the second half of 2017, both of those should show good improvements on what is around now.

I wouldn't bother to be honest. I would certainly consider an upgraded GPU, the GTX1080 would be a brilliant upgrade. Nothing else in your system is holding anything back for gaming so I would enjoy another year or 2 out of it with a new GPU :)

I don't think I'd bother, I'd wait for the new CPUs (Kaby Lake and the Zen family) and probably Vega and Volta. The 1080 (and even the 1070) is a bit extortionate at the moment too, due to both the £ and the absence of any competition.

As it stands, £2k wouldn't quite be enough for a 4k gaming rig, since you'd ideally want SLI GTX 1080s for that. Better to wait for newer GPUs to bring the prices down (and hopefully performance up a bit) before taking the plunge, if you're still ok with your current setup. :)

Honest opinions all round =)

Yeah wasn't feeling it myself either - not that I don't want to give my hard earned cash to PC Specialist...

Will wait it out and monitor prices on the 1080 as well as look at the new technology when it arrives.

Thanks
