Touchpad problems

Bump, anyone else have any ideas?

I am having the same issue. It's not a huge issue since I always use an external mouse anyway, but it is annoying and the link above isn't very helpful since it doesn't even show up in Device Manager. Have you managed to solve the problem lately?

If the mousepad isn’t showing in device manager it’s because it disabled. There’s a Hotkey to enable and disable it.

Now you are insulting my intelligence. :)

You don't think I've tried that?
Worth mentioning if you have, we're not mind readers.

If it's not enabling, then it's either failed or the hotkey is not working. Are any of your other hotkeys working?

All hotkeys are working as they should, including this one, insofar as showing "Touch pad on" and "Touch pad off" when toggling. I can also tell you that I have spent hours googling for a solution, testing many different tips. On forums for HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer, Asus etc, they have threads about this, but no solution. But it doesn't necessarily have to be a Touchpad although it's most common. Others have issues with the keyboard or touch screen.

There are no unknown devices in device manager?

The BSOD Doctor
Nope. Only a warning sign on "I2C HID Device" with error code 10.
Well that's pretty catastrophic. A HID device is a Human Input Device (mouse, touchpad, keyboard, etc.) and a code 10 means the device could not start.

If you're feeling brave you can try the old trick of deleting the upper and lower filters* in the registry for that device - but make a backup before you do. See here for details on how to do this - be certain you're working with the right device, they're identified by GUIDs so you need to find the GUID for your device with a code 10 (it's probably 4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 but it's down to you to check that).

*Filters are front end and back end components of drivers, the upper filters are called before the driver and the lower filters are called after the driver. They are used to modify the actions of the driver in subtle ways that may or may not be either useful or needed - and like bad driver code they can cause issues.

Thanks for the tip, but I already read about that too, and there were upper or lower filters to begin with.

The most frusttrating thing about this, is that it must just be some driver and Windows 10 combination that causes this. Probably some erroneous .inf file is causing it, so sending the computer back for repairs won't do any good. But as I said, I am practically using an external mouse 99.9% of the time anyway. But there are times when I could use the Touchpad, and it is also bloody annoying.

The mouse is separate to the touchpad. Usually the touchpad will be a synaptics driver.

What's the chassis model number? It will be on a label on the underside of the laptop?

Hi Spydertracks,

Since I have the same problem, I wonder what your answer would be if I told you that my chassis model is P970EN.

Thanks in advance.

Is this a pcspecialist system?

Can you post your full specs from the order page?

Yes, it is a PCSpecialist Defiance V. Attaching the specs. Unfortunately I only get them in Swedish, but maybe you can make out the details anyway.

Can you copy the text, we can't open PDF's as they can contain viruses.

Alright, here you go. I have added a 1TB M.2 drive myself, but the issue precedes that.

Have you done anything like reinstall or reset windows since you've had it?

What AV do you have installed?

Have you used any driver updater software?

Only Windows Defender. I am pretty careful and never run any untrusted software. I haven't reset the computer. Updates are only from Windows update and updated drivers from Clevo. However, since the problem occurred I've tried a few things, like rolling back the drivers for SerialIO and HIDFilter to older ones which didn't help.

But I am pretty sure that it occurred with some Windows update or maybe the hardware is broke. The problem didn't start with any manual driver installation by me. If a had to take a guess, it happened in conjunction with a new Windows 10 release.
