Trouble after resetting PC

Hello Guys,

Recently decided to fully reset my PC as it was getting slow and crashed a couple of times, after windows 10 booted up it seemed my steelseries apex pro keyboard did not work although the rgb lights were on, the mouse and other USBs work fine.

The error message I receive is an unrecognised device has been connected, under device manager the keyboard says unknown device.

I get the error when trying to reinstall, error occurred when installing the drivers for your device.

I've tried 2 keyboards both the same issue and I've tried all USB 2 and 3 slots.

BIOS updated
Firmware updated
I have also installed windiws 11 to try and fix but the same issue.
Keyboard updated via Steelseries GG engine.

Edited, Keyboard works to access BIOS but once the login screen appears it does not.

Any help would be great.

Hi there,

We wouldn't recommend using the reset feature of Windows. It causes a number of headaches, as you are finding. It sounds like conflicting drivers are the issue here.

If you're going down the route of a fresh install be sure to download the Chipset drivers along with the Network drivers (for Wifi).

Reformat and delete the partitions on the primary drive only.
Install Windows fresh from USB
Install Chipset Drivers
Install Wifi Drivers
Download/Install Nvidia GPU drivers
Run Windows update multiple times, check for optional updates and apply those.

The Keyboard etc should automatically be found by the Windows update installer. If not, download them from SteelSeries.

My best guess is it's actually the chipset drivers or the USB controller drivers that's causing the problems. Rather than the keyboard itself. Even without the bespoke drivers installed, you will get a generic driver to use the keyboard..... as you are finding with the BIOS.

HI Scott,

Thank you for taking the time to respond, after a fresh install and a reformat / windows updates this fixed the problem, the issue was corrupt system files.

You were spot on, thanks again!
