Trying to create a super powerful workstation which can handle 4K video editing using DaVinci Resolve, super fast CG using Lightwave and UnrealEngine

This is what I have come up with. Basically I tried to pick the highest spec everything. I love the idea of mirrored RAID (having lost data in the past.) How does this little lot look to you? I set myself a budget of £8 000 inc VAT maximum (to allow for other, extra things like the 3D software.) Is anything overkill? I suspect it might be...

I do not understand about 1st and second RAIDS etc. Basically I would want a couple of drives as big as possible and as fast as possible, mirrored RAID so are there any adjustments to this spec I need to make?

Thanks guys!

Will

Way over in certain areas (RAM, storage, fans) way under in others (PSU) I will let others who know better tame the build

I suggest having a read of Pugets Davinci resolve to get an idea of where you need to be for that

First off, let's deal with the 22TB elephant in the room. RAID is not a backup. Use that as your mantra waking up in the morning and going to bed at night. RAID is not a backup. RAID 1 mitigates against one precise thing: a single drive failure. It does not protect against theft, fire, water spillage, accidental deletion of files, or a host of other things. And when a drive fails, there's a very good chance that the second one will fail soon after, since it is the precise same model of drive, is living in the precise same circumstances, and has the precise same amount of wear. Is RAID 1 pointless? No, it's not. It could be a worthwhile additional bit of protection and convenience. But if you are relying on these files for your work, you need to protect them properly, with a 3-2-1 strategy: three copies of your data, on two different media, and one copy off site: I personally use Backblaze for this last part. RAID 1 would be an addition to a backup strategy.

Once more, RAID is not a backup.

Now, for the rest of the build. I think you are spending very unwisely. Your CPU, the 14900KS, is just a bit stupid. It's super power-hungry, super inefficient and super expensive. For your uses, you should be looking at Threadripper instead. Then we have the storage situation, addressed above. And then we have around £1000 of accessories: expensive keyboard, mouse, mousepad, Stream Deck, webcam and microphone. To me you're spending an astonishing amount on them and it doesn't seem that well directed. You can get much better options cheaper if you don't try to buy them in a package with the rest of the PC. I've left them in the build below, but I would recommend you do some research into this rather than just picking them from the PCS list.

I'm also unsure about your £500 network card. I'm suggesting a motherboard with 1x10Gb/s and 1x2.5Gb/s network ports: is that seriously not enough for you?!

So, all in all, here's the build I'd kind of recommend for your purposes, though I'd dial it back a bit. (And, since I'm a hopeless data addict, I'd probably spend the savings on more SSDs.)
