UEFI trouble on new build for Ubuntu

Hi, I'm looking for some pointers on the right UEFI settings :)

Ubuntu 17.04 runs live perfectly fine and the install also works fine. It's installed to the Kingston SSD and there are no other discs.

But the system won't boot. Playing with UEFI settings, it either goes to network boot, or if it attempts to boot from Kingston SSD, I get the
"Reboot and select proper boot device" prompt.

We've done a fair few installs on UEFI, but as months go by different motherboard manufacturers seem to get a little too creative with the UEFI interfaces and the terms and options seem inconsistent, so all our note on Lenovo and HP does seem to apply to this Gigabyte motherboard. It's also quite hard to google for results.

there are some generic UEFI GUI screenshots here:

I've run boot-repair from a live usb but that hasn't worked. Does anyone have any tips?

Also one aspect I'd like to eliminate is - The machine was ordered without any OS, but because a bare version of windows is loaded by the PCSpecialist guys for soak testing, has that install perhaps done something re secure boot? Or the SSD? If anyone know that would give me a baseline to work from

Are you sure the install is fine, I had a "Reboot and select proper boot device" message on my recent Optimus but after a fresh install in worked. I have had three PCS machines with no OS and not had secure boot problems. The first two I did not use UEFI initially and installed with "nomodeset". There were GPU problems with the Optimus but those apart the install was eventually fine with Secure and UEFI on. It is worth double checking (although I expect you have) that there is nothing else in the boot order, DVD player, USB stick etc, if there is make sure they are disabled and not just down the boot order list, I am unsure why that can have an effect when the main dive is top of the boot order but I have seen it on some machines

Hi Stephen M, thanks and I will try a further install. I've done two so far, but it only takes a few minutes.

One of my problems is I can't find nomodeset or any equivalent so far in this UEFI GUI. I'll try removing items from the boot order also.
