Upgrade advice - Minimal as well as Mid range

My 2009 PCSpecialist Computer has been upgraded intermittently , namely for ram, graphics card and OS.

It's suddenly stopped powering on, and I suspect a change in PSU will do the trick.

I no longer live in Europe, so will have to DIY .

Please can you suggest at the very least - a suitable PSU for the current setup, one that will fit in the case of course!

And since I will be opening it up, should I upgrade anything else ? I am guessing the motherboard and cpu perhaps? PLease suggest models if recommending further upgrade.

I rarely use the pc for gaming nowadays, but my current game list includes guildwars 2 and the latest tom raider games. I do often use the machine to edit RAW format photos.

Thank you in advance

Edit: According to Coolermaster PSU calculater, I require a minimum of 505W . This will probably be the last time I upgrade this computer. In addition to what's noted below, I might add a SSD, unless we go through the process of upgrading motherboard, cpu etc.

You definitely don't need a 900W PSU for that setup, that's for sure. A high quality 650-700W should be more than fine (80+ Certified or higher).

here is a few:
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2 650W Modular Power Supply 80 Plus Gold
Corsair RM650 80+ Gold Fully-Modular 650W Watt PSU
Corsair GS700 - 700watt PSU

You probably don't want to buy those "Gaming" PSUs, for 20£, there's a reason they are so cheap :)

EDIT: Here is a prime example of a PSU you definitely don't want for your setup: http://www.ebay.ie/itm/ACE-750W-Bla...Cooling-Fan-/321812688725?hash=item4aed87ef55

I'd add to what thisisevilevil says and say don't buy anything from eBay full stop, it's generally knock off's or poor quality.

I find myself buying hardware via UK Resellers via ebay quite a lot :) There's almost no good resellers here in Ireland, and the ones we have, buy the hardware from UK anyway so the delivery time is 3-4 working days.

Thank you for the replies. I'll check thise models as well as the corsair ax760 as it seems to have good reviews. What do you think? I'm not in uk and don't find the postal systems to be v reliable ,so I'm going to get it from a shop.

Additional advice needed please.

Based on the recommendations above, the closest product I can find locally is : Corsair RM650i 650W 80+ Gold Modular Power Supply. Google didn't really answer my query re rm650 vs rm650i.

THe following connectors come with the supply:

1x ATX
1x EPS
2x Floppy
7x Four Pin Peripheral
4x PCI
8x SATA

According to my current setup [and based on referring the current connectors to google image] , I need a 20 oin atx for the mother board. another 4 + 4 EPS12v also to the mother board. 3xSATA, PCI? for the fans. and The gainward requires 8 pin and 6 pin power connectors.
a. Do I need to buy a 6 pin power connector separately, to be able to power the graphics card?
b. Where in this image would I connect the power source for the graphics card.

I understand that this is a highly noobish question, but appreciate any support in advance. Screen Shot 2015-08-06 at 12.37.15.png

Hello :) It is not a noobish question when you are in doubt. The connectors your are referring to is the "PCI" that is the ones that connects to your GPU. You would not need to buy seperate cables. PSU.png

Just wanted to thank all of you that replied to my posts.
I bought a rm750i as it was about 10+ the cost of the 650i
Managed to set it up pretty quickly. The computer is less noisy than before. I set up the corsair link, even though I probably won't be overclocking. That said, the motherboard , the graphics card etc all seem fairly easy to overclock by a slight extent... so who knows? I might get bored someday...

In the meantime, you guys rock!
