Upgrade or new?

So i am looking at upgrading my gaming pc from a 1060-6gb to an rtx 3070.

the pc is around almost 4 years old, still runs beautifully, but it is time for a change, to tackle newer games.

the issue i have is, the motherboard is an old msi thing and is incompatible with basically everything. I have a 1060 at the moment and soon to be a 3070, but the cpu is an i5-7600 which is usually running at 100%.

for the new gpu, i need to replace the psu, which has me thinking... if i replace that, i may as well do the motherboard at the same time, allowing me to upgrade my ram. Would this be worth doing, as an i5-7600 will work well with a 3070, or do you think i’m best off, build from scratch?

the cpu has 4 cores 4 threads 3.5ghz i believe and it appears to still be quite an expensive component, even now, so am i right in assuming, it should be fine for a few more years?

Is this a PCSpecialist PC? Can you post your full specs from the order page?
My current one isn’t a PCS one,

i5-7600
1060-6gb
450w psu
16gb ddr4 2400 (2x8gb).
Msi h110m pro-vd (ms-7996)

on benchmark tests, everything is running well, apart from gpu.

i run it all on a 1440p monitor (msi optic ag32cq)

my gut feeling is... upgrade the psu and gpu and in a few years, start from scratch. Especially with the current stock issues of everything.

As PCSpecialist build and sell custom desktops and laptops we can’t advise on self builds or competitor builds, you may want to check out toms hardware which is an open forum.

I’m talking about using pcs for the new build, or whether it’s worth just upgrading gpu

Upgrading with PCS obviously.

go and put together an AMD build and put it up for review.

decide budget, type of use it will have and monitor (s)it will be paired with.

cheers.

I would agree with this, there's no need for a complete new build on a 4 year old rig, it's got plenty of life left in it.

But we can't advise on upgrading the existing build, for that you'd need to check out Toms hardware or another open forum.

Apologies as not on topic as such, but just wanted to highlight this post to those doubters out there that think the moderators on here are PCS bias / employees / always on PCS side etc.

This shows that mods give true independent, impartial and dedicated advice. Now whilst it’s not actually helped that much, it shows that even if the best advice is don’t buy new yet from PCS but look at upgrades elsewhere it just proves, those doubters wrong and the advice given is completely and always has been unbiased.

May I wish mods, and all others that are helping people on here seasons greetings and express many thanks for all the technical input you put into this forum - I personally am learning so much from it.
