Upgrade question

First of all, apologies if this is the incorrect part of the forum to post this.

Now the question at hand, I was looking at some of the upgrade options for my pc that I bought from PC Specialist a while ago, specifically, my CPU, and found that there is only the option to upgrade to a i7-3770. Is this because of my mobo? I was hoping that I would be able to upgrade to a 4 series down the line. Or is it because of my RAM or something daft like that? My specs are in my sig

Yep, the motherboard is what is limiting your choice, it will only take Socket 1155 CPU's (ie. 2nd and 3rd generation i7/i5 CPUs I think), 4th gen CPU's use the 1150 socket - Intel like changing their sockets ...

Thanks for the replies chaps. Kinda sucks to be honest, guess I'll have to look into buying a H100i and overclocking my current i7-3570k.

Just out of curiosity, would I have to upgrade to some 1600Mhz or higher RAM in order to over clock my CPU?
