VGA vs HDMI

So the titles pretty self explanatory but I'll give some background. For years now I have used a VGA connection from my desktop to monitor with external speakers running out the headphone port, however I recently acquired a TV/monitor and since I could use HDMI I'm wondering if there are any benefits to doing so quality/performance wise. Graphics card is a nvidia geforce GT 640 (yes I know Its crap)
Thanks in advance

HDMI (and DVI) is capable of better quality than VGA (due to VGA being analogue). In practice in some cases you might not be able to tell the difference, VGA quality can depend on the quality of the cable. If you have the choice, I'd recommend trying HDMI. HDMI/DVI also support higher resolutions than VGA.

HDMI has the additional benefit over DVI and VGA of carrying the audio and video in a single cable.
