Hi wasthing of buying the viper II with all the custom parts at the bottom, pretty unsure as i'm happy with around the £1000 mark, but was wondering if it would be worth it or if i could get a far better and more powerful pc tower for cheaper?
what i would like to mainly do play games e.g. Call of duty,
watch films dvd/blu ray
and record and edit music.

So in a nut shell the laptop with the custom parts below would it be able to do that
and is it worth it or could i get a customer built tower with better specs
look forward to your speedy response

Yours Truely
Thomas Ashley

Welcome to our forums :)

Although you've put together a great laptop, for playing games such as Call of Duty, I would recommend a desktop PC.

When configuring a desktop PC you can get a much more powerful graphics card, which is the key component for playing games. Here's my suggested specification, which includes a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers:

Case
PCS MAELSTROM T900 BLACK GAMING CASE (£59)
Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i5-760 Quad Core (2.80GHz, 8MB Cache)
Motherboard
ASUS® P7H55-M SI: MICRO ATX VALUE MAINBOARD,USB 2.0 & SATA 3.0Gb/s
Memory (RAM)
4GB SAMSUNG DDR3 DUAL-DDR3 1333MHz (2 X 2GB)
Graphics Card
1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX460 GDDR5 PCI EXPRESS - DirectX® 11
Memory - 1st Hard Disk
750GB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 16MB CACHE (7,200rpm)
1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive
24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
Memory Card Reader
INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (READS XD, MS, CF, SD, etc)
Power Supply & Case Cooling
450W Quiet 80 PLUS Dual Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan (£29)
Processor Cooling
INTEL SOCKET LGA1156 STANDARD CPU COOLER
Sound Card
ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)

Thanks for your reply, so basically would it be more better for me to get a desktop tower for what i want to do..
i was wondering if the laptop i designed above is able to play games like call of duty and cope?

The reason is i would really like a laptop for the portability and if you could think of a good design for under £1000 that is super fast and can handle anything i would appreciate it or if you believe i am going to be getting more for me money by buying a pc tower then many come up with something that is amazing and can run and do everything with ease basically powerful and last for many years.

anyways thanks for your reply ;)

Well i may go back to the drawing board to design a tower around the specs above :D
i think i was only choosing the Viper II because of its 18.4" shell,
also will a intel core 7i 1.86GHz 8mb cache make a difference to the laptop?? what does the cache mean for the CPU?
what specs would you choose for a Laptop budget £1100?
sorry if im pushing my luck, you are a great help thanks alot.

PCS speaks the truth.

Laptops, however powerful, are always cut down versions of desktop components. In order to reduce the heat and power consumption of the components and make them suitable for a laptop they are not as powerful as the desktop counterparts (listen closely Fermi haters!) the fastest cpu's / gpu's always have and always will be very power hungry and produce a lot of heat.

Its simply not possible to pack all the power of a desktop machine into a laptop without melting it.

The smaller and more efficient laptop components also come at a premium, so if its gaming bang for buck you are after a desktop is the only option.
