Volume Levels issue

I have had my PC Specialist PC since July last year with no problems till now. for some reason the volume level keeps changing randomly. Its on board sound with Realtek High Definition, i updated the drivers to see if that would sort it, made no difference. Its just random, goes quiet then back up. I use Itunes to play my music. Googling issue points to a Realtek problem, some solutions offered and tried but no improvement. Computer is still under warranty, but I'm reluctant to send it back for repairs etc. Any ideas, or would fitting separate sound card sort it. as i only listen to music on it i would only want a basic sound card, don't use 5.1 set up, just a pair of Cambridge Sound-Works speakers and bass box.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

in sound tab right click and disable the realtek digital output tab and right click the speaker icon above it to get a green tick. when i click the speaker icon bottom right it says speakers realtek high def audio and the volume is 50% on slider . this gives a good balance when swapping between speakers and headset.

Have tried all ways through Sound to get this sorted, but its still the same. It also does it when watching any video clips. Do you think i would have same problem if i ditched the Realtek sound, and put in a separate sound card. I have a max budget of £25ish for a card, just want reliable, no frills , not into playing games or watching films, basic 2 speaker set up with bass box, any suggestions on what to buy. Or should i do a new fresh installation of Win 10 etc, bit loathe to do this as it takes so long.

Any advice appreciated

While I appreciate your reluctance to send it back, it would be worth contacting PCS anyway.

First, the forums aren't an official source of support (they're mostly for the customer community), so PCS staff may very well not see the topic and be able to provide a full range of troubleshooting. Since you've paid them to build the PC, and provide a warranty, you might as well make use of the technical support service they provide :) They may well be able to take you through some fixes that don't involve sending it back, or possibly even remote control the PC to adjust settings / apply fixes (with your consent).

Second, it's best to get it highlighted as soon as possible just in case it does turn out to be a hardware issue, so that any repairs that might need to be done would happen within the warranty. Let's say it was a problem with the motherboard - you wouldn't want to put up with it for a few more months and have a more serious problem happen just after your warranty expires...

I don't have any bright ideas myself I'm afraid. Other than the first result on google, which seemed to work for a lot of people: https://superuser.com/a/950722

Hello Cymru48,

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing sound issues. I hope that I can help get this issue sorted out for you. Whilst I understand that you have attempted to update the drivers, these updates can leave certain aspects of the previous drivers and software on the system. I would therefore like to guide you through a complete uninstallation and reinstallation of the latest available drivers in the hope that this will solve the issues you have had.

Firstly, I would recommend uninstalling your Audio software and driver, please Right Click on the Start Button > Programs and Features > Scroll through the list and check whether there are any instances of Realtek Audio software and any other audio driver software, then restart your system.

Once the system has restarted please go into device manager (click start, type in device manager, click the device manager button) and under sound, video and game controllers please right click and uninstall any Audio drivers ensuring you tick the box labelled 'delete driver software for this device'.

Then you need to download the following piece of software by clicking the download links, it comes in a zip folder, to unzip them find the folders in your downloads folder, right click and click extract all. Run the ASUSSetup.exe file inside and once complete, please restart your system.

Please let me know how you get on and whether this has any effect. I look forward to hearing from you.
