Vortex III 17" - wrong screen supplied....

First of all I would like to thank PCS for dealing with my requests via phone in such a prompt manner and delivering my system within the alotted time period. The txt updates are extremely useful.

My Vortex III arrived today.

I booted it up, set up windows, then did the following:

Start menu -> Properties of MY Computer -> Device Manager -> extend Monitors -> Properties of Monitors -> Device tab -> Hardware ID's "CHO1720" -> shut down laptop -> put laptop back in box.

After all of the forum discussions regarding the garbage Chi Mei screens that have been floating around recently and calling support twice to add notes to the order specifically requesting that a proper AUO B173HW01 V.5 is fitted to my order or I would not accept it. A PCS member of staff stated himself that Chi Mei screens were to be supplied with the Skyfire II chassis at no extra cost to the default glossy screen and that they would not be supplied with Vortex III systems.

Suffice it to say I am not happy.

I've requested an RMA. Please sort this out as soon as possible.

Edit: Posted in wrong section and cannot delete, could a mod please move it, thank you.

Now you got me worried about mine! It is already in building and I hope they won't mess it up. I will give them a call first thing on Monday to check, although by the looks of it it might not be enough!

It worries me too.

I am just about (today) to order a Vortex III and I am worried I will end up with a Chi Mei screen or the other issue I see here is about keyboard issues.

The keyboard seams particularly troublesome. There are over 5 pages to this link!

http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?16771-Vortex-3-Keyboard-s-key-problem

Some people have suggested upgrading to a third party keyboard, but at over 100 USD that's quite a chunk of cash for a laptop that is already going to cost over a grand and a half!!

Plus the fact it should work properly anyway!!

I have to admit I am surprised it’s causing so much trouble, PCS seam to be an on-the-ball company with a great reputation.

Both my boss and a colleague have PCS units and can’t say enough about their expertise, quality and customer service.

I am confidant they will do their best to repair the keyboard if it is actually faulty BUT if the replacement keyboards are faulty what can PCS do?

I don’t want to have the laptop spending most of its time in a van between me and PCS.

I know they have only have limited control over the components supplied but I would have thought they would have enough influence over a component that appears to have a design fault.

So I am surprised the keyboard issue is still persistent.

Not sure how to proceed now!!

Dear PCS,

Thank you for the reply. I received confirmation this afternoon that the RMA has been accepted.

@Hargil: don't worry too much, but it might be worth giving them a call to make sure that a AUO B173HW01 V.5 has been fitted instead of a Chi Mei matte screen.

Regarding the keys; Mine seem to work well (no stiff movement) however the tab and capslock keys do protrude a fair amount more than the other keys. I will ask PCS to look into this.

As the P1x0EM chassis are fairly new, more minor niggles / issues are being pointed out. As a result I am sure that PCS QC will become far more stringent.

It's just the keyboard thing that is concerning me.

If the wrong screen is fitted then PCS seam very professional about accepting responsibility and fixing it.

It would just be a pain really.

But the keyboard issue seams like a design issue.

But maybe it is only a few out of many that have an issue. you only hear about the faulty ones.
