Vortex III and Virtualization

I've just received delivery of my brand new Vortex III and I've had a handful of issues getting it set up. At present, I'm trying to get Virtualization support enabled so that I can run 64bit VMWare images as is required for my work. VMWare is telling me that my CPU (an Intel i7-3820QM @ 2.7Ghz) supports hardware virtualization, but that it is disabled. I've checked the BIOS and there's no options for virtualization. In fact, the BIOS is very sparse altogether. The BIOS version is 1.00.01. I'm hoping that there's an update available to this BIOS that will enable me to turn on Virtualization support. Frankly I find it odd that it would ship with VT disabled.

Can anyone help me in this regard?

Thanks

Hig, you need to download the latest BIOS from CLEVO for your laptop model, which would be P1xxEM. AFAIK CLEVO made an oversight and hasn't released a BIOS to make VT work with Ivy Bridge processors for the newer P1xxEM models.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have been more clear. I am looking for the BIOS update as I've checked the CLEVO homepage (http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download.asp) and there's no BIOS updates available. I was hoping someone could help me out as I require a virtual machine for my work and I purchased this rather expensive laptop under the assumption that I would be able to run said VMs on it.

hig,

I have no idea what you guys are talking about, but just incase, have a look at Dotnetwizard's thread below. I don't know if this will help or if you're both talking about the same thing, but just incase it helps.

We are talking about the same thing, yep, and that link you provided gives you the instructions to update the BIOS, but it's in German. If anyone wants the translated instructions then I will provide them later on, so watch this space.

My problem is not in updating the BIOS, its in getting the update file to flash it with. That's what I'm looking for. And its a P150EMX if memory serves.

Hig, Clevo's FTP site has the latest bios update for your model (which in actual fact is the same bios update I used) that comes with the necessary files you need to flash your bios. You just need to create a bootable pen drive, unzip the contents of the bios update zip file and then copy the files to the pen drive.

There are tutorials on the web showing you how to create bootable pen drives using the HP USB format tool).

Thanks for the replies. I've tried going to their FTP site but it's asking me to log in or some such.
Also, once again I don't need assistance in the flashing process. I've run a computer repair store for years and have multiple computing qualifications and degrees. I'm just having difficulties finding the BIOS files.

Edit:
Correction, it WAS asking me to log in. Got in just now. And for anyone who comes across this post in the not too distant future here's the link: ftp://ftp.clevo.com.tw/allbios/P1xxEM/

Edit 2:
Flash process done and dusted. Everything updated to the 04 release. Thanks for the assistance. And for anyone interested, after you flash there's still no option in the BIOS to toggle VT on and off, it's just on by default.

Glad to be of assistance Hig :) I was a bit surprised the FTP site was asking you to login as it never did that for me.
