Vortex IV 8970m temps

Hi. i recently revived my Vortex IV 17inch.
so far im overall pleased with build quality and performance and not to mention the glossy 90% gamut screen that is truly in another league compared with previous laptops ive owned(g55,ge70).

what is a bit alarming is the temps i get on my 8970m.
before ordering my computer i reed on notebokcheck that it would push 72c after 30min battlefield 3.

but for me playing Bioshock infinity will push me up to 77-80c with a U3 cooler max, and beyond if i turn it off.
other games lite WOTR and FC3 also give me around 78c.

where the notebookcheck test faulty or is my pastejob poor?

what are other owners seeing?

It is probably an estimate, different chassis, room temp........
Have you try pressin fn+1 when gaming?

Similar but I got a 780m

the notebookcheck test was done in the same chassis, the p170sm.
And im in Sweden so its not blazing heat hehe.

they did run the 780m in the same test and reported it hitting 86c.
so one would think that the 8970m card should run cooler then 780m.

Don't worry those temps are completely normal for a laptop GPU. If it keeps hitting 90+oC then there might be a problem, but I wouldn't worry about the current temps :)

Yeah i agree those temperatures are fine, i sit about that on the 6990m and not had a problem.

so i decided to do a repast and was shocked when i removed the heatsink to find this 20130924_161326.jpg
its obvious that pcspecialist did not repast the system with the mx-4 they so gladly charged me for.
the paste was overflowing and hard like clay.
worst paste job ever.
probably done by a machine in Taiwan.
hope they will reimburse me for this.

Did you repaste the GPU and CPU? was it difficult to access them?

only the gpu.
not harder then to remove 4 screws for the backplate, then 7 screws for the heatsink.
not sure i did a topnotch pastjob though. have never done it before so will probably redo it again just to see if i used the right amount the first time.
it is cooler but only by 2-3c. one would expect more when the old one looks like that.
